ds wanted to help cook sweet and sour chicken from scratch tonight, the recipe calls for dipping the chicken in eggs and corn starch, do you think mayo will work or should I scrap it?
cuz i'm out of eggs and not running to the store.

When I am making breaded cutlets or chicken parm. I dip the chicken in milk. I haven't used eggs in years and my family can't tell the difference.
I've made this or orange chicken a few times. The thing with this recipe is the egg kind of acts like the breading so I don't think mayo would work. Does the recipe say to dip it into the cornstarch and then the egg? If it's just a binding then the mayo would work. I would just save the recipe for another night and cook the chicken with mayo, parmesan cheese, and bread crumbs on top. You can do a google search, it's pretty good, it's that meal they show on some mayo commercial. Good luck!
I have heard of patting with flour, dipping in milk, then dredging in breadcrumbs... Not sure how well it works.
My grandma used to use Ranch and whatever breading... But hat probably wouldn't work for sweet and sour.
I have also used Italian dressing when out of other stuff to use. Adds great flavor.
Real mayo is mostly eggs and oil so it works perfectly. Miricle Whip has recipes for doing that chicken so I bet it's great.
There are lots of breaded chicken recipes that call for mayo instead of an egg wash. It should work just fine. Milk is another option. Last week I resorted to a cold water wash to get my breading to stick. I too, did not want to head out to the store. I think mayo will work just fine.
Why can't you use eggs and starch?
Mayo would likely work fine. Maybe add a bit of flour.
ETA: Gotcha. I've seen breaded chicken recipes that use Mayo. Perhaps look up one and see how much?
