I am doing choc. chip cookie lollipops as a favor for my 8 & 5yo daughter's bday parties. My question is....what do I use for the decoration? What type of icing, frosting should I use that wont slide off when I put it in the cellophane bag?

I would melt chocolate and dip the cookie in it...you could even get white chocolate or colored chocolate at a craft store if you wanted to make it colorful...

You can make your own with powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. It will dry hard. And you can add food coloring to make them any color you want.

If you aren't afraid of using a raw egg, then this will work for you. One egg white(pierce egg with a knife, leaving a 1/4 inch hole and shake egg white into bowl),1/2 teas.cream of tartar, and enough powdered sugar to create
a thick paste. Then decorate your cookies, using a pastry bag or drizzle on with a spoon.Let dry, so it hardens. This icing will not smear in the baggies. I have used this recipe for 20 years on my Chritmas cookies and no-one got sick from the raw egg. You can add food coloring, too. Have fun !!! C.

the chocolate dip sounds nice! but i wanted to let you know how to make a simple royal icing in case you wanted colors- just mix confectioners sugar and milk until it is a smooth consistancy that will work for whatever tool, (pastry tube to pipe or knife to spread,) you'd be using to apply. you can add regular food coloring to that and make just about any color you want! do it the day ahead so it's hard/firm enough to not smear, but it doesnt' take too long. have fun!

Why not melt chocolate and dip the cookie in (all the way or 1/2 way) then add sprinkles while hot and let dry. That won't come off on a bag.

you can try dipping in slighty heated fluff or marshmallows ( melt a few seconds inmicrowave, stir may add food coloring , then stir and can spread like frosting or dip) can put in refridgerator and doesnt become liek a brick. put decorations on while still wet from microwave before refridge.) test on a cookie first so dont ruin whole batch if constistancy doesnt work. good luck. sounds so cute!

If you would like to ice the cookies (not really needed, though) you may have the best luck with making a royal icing. It's pretty easy to do and it will harden in the fridge. This is the type of icing that is on black-and-white cookies. Royal icing is very sweet.

You could also bake the cookies with a little bit of colored sprinkles which will look festive with less sugar! Then tie the cellophane with colorful ribbons.

That's a great idea for party favors! If you use the kind in the tube that you find in the grocery store, and let it sit overnight, it should be fine. The icing will harden enough to not get ruined, but still be edible. Just make sure that you get the icing and not the gel, because that will smear every time! Good luck with your project!
