Hi there, you can get some really enexpensive dvd cam corders now, we had the same 8 mm thing and we just bought a nice panisonic dvd hand recorder for about 350.00 its worth it in time saving. Good luck- AJ
Our camcorder uses the 8mm VHS tapes. You can hook it up to the tv and view the recordings, but it is a pain. I would love to be able to convert them to disc, I just don't know how.
Or, should I just buy a new camera that is uses the DVD or hard drive? Our camera is only 2 yrs old and barely used! Things are obsolete so quick, though.
Anyone have suggestions?

You can buy a program for your computer that will convert tape's to DVD if you have a DVD burner on your computer. It's called "Dazzle: Digital Video Creator 80"
Hi K.,
I use a capture device and software made by pinnacle. The one I use was actually made by Dazzle, but Pinnacle bought them out. Pinnacle is the best one to go with though, it hooks up to your computer using a USB cable and to the camera using the same RCA A/V cords that you use to connect your camera to the TV. You can buy this stuff online or Best Buy or that sort of store.

you can buy a DVD recorder and play the movie on your tvand just record it on your DVD recorder....its easy
My husband does this! www.putitonfilm.com
You can also just email him if you have any questions. He is very knowledgeable and happy to help.

Check with Walmart's photo center. They can send out your tapes and have them converted.
You can take your tapes to Wolf Camera, and they can put them on DVD for you. They do a really good job. I don't know how much it costs, but have seen the quality of their product. They are worth trying!
I second Lucy's idea. We bought a combination VHS/DVD recorder for $100 at Walmart and can connect our Hi8 movie camera to the recorder and transfer from the Hi8 tape to a VHS or DVD if we want. If you have several to transfer, and also if you want to keep your current camera, it's probably your cheapest option as well.
Does your camera have (or can you buy) a cord that hooks to your computer? If it does (and your computer has software to make movies and a dvd burner), that may be all you need.

I THINK that Russell at Black i Media can help you. My husband has gotten business cards, logo t-shirts, and business logo stickers from him. But I know that he is also very knowledgable about 'movie media' (?) as he did a great video montage to music for my husband's grandfather's 75th birthday, and I am going to have him do one of my daughter's home movies. If he can't do it, he might know someone who can. The website is www.blackimedia.com. Good luck!
