Hello,
I just recently started my 7 1/2 month baby on finger foods, he hated the puree baby food. Well, since then, he seems to be having a hard time to defecate. I've read that this is normal, but do you guys have any advices as to what kind of foods can help him defecate a little better, besides the prunes and drinking water?
I know I have to avoid bananas, rice, applesauces & toasts

Thank you

Hi there,
This process requires sufficient magnesium. Some people require more than others and the way we know that is by the problem of constipation. It could be a baby, child or adult. They just need more than others.
I would find foods high in magnesium or you can use a supplement called Baby Calm by Peter Gillham (found in most health food stores or internet).
Take care,
C.

Aw poor you and baby! How about a little prune JUICE cut with water? Maybe you could puree the adult food as opposed to giving him the pureerd Gerber food? Maybe he'd like that instead of the already packaged pureed baby food. If keeping w/finger foods, stay away from cheeses etc. Also, make the pieces of food torn into teeny, tiny pieces. Easier to digest as it seems he may be having a hard time digesting "real" food just yet. Maybe a little apple juice too cut w/water. Good luck!

I use Woodward's gripe water that I get from Indian grocery store for kids. They are 4 and 2. I used to give them gripe water twice (10AM and 6PM) every single day until they were 2. I give them even now, but once a day as they got into a good routine.

Gripe water is made from fennel and is natural; primarily helps with good digestion so the kids don't get colicky.

Apple juice can be helpful. Just be careful it's not sugary - and dilute it. Exercise is also good - if he isn't crawling, just moving his legs for him as you play with him on his back can get things moving as well.
