My son is 13 months old. He takes a prescibed allergy medication which is causing constipation. I've cut his dosage to every other day. I've tried juices and fruits, but can't seem to come up with the right combination. I was giving him applesauce at dinner time, did'nt help. I moved that to breakfast time. Has helped a little. But his poopies are still to hard. Sometimes he's straining to go. I've tried apple juce and prune juice. Didnt help. Is there something else out there that I'm missing? I was giving him his allergy medicine in the morning and we didnt have a going problem, but he wouldnt eat during the day that way. So i had to move his dosage to the evening. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My DD suffered from constipation at that age and what really help her was remove dairy from her diet, you can try remove cheese and yougurt and switch to lactose free if that does'nt work is better to go completly dairy free. It will also help with allergies.

What kind of juices? Pears and pear juice always worked great on my son who was contipated a lot.

I have had that problem too. I gave him prunes to eat and it worked.I also bought a laxative for him. It helped a little. The doctor told me to incorporate more fiber. He told me to give him Benefiber as a temporary solution. It has worked so far but I don't give it to him anymore because he has started going more comfortably. Hope this helps.

Hi J.. My daughter had lots of constipation issues and we still have to monitor her pretty closely. Her biggest problem is that she LOVES cheese, which constipates. We didn't want to remove cheese from her diet since it's such a good source of protein - and an easy snack.
We have her eat prunes. When she was younger we either bought the baby food prunes or boiled my own and put them in the food processor. Now I just buy them and cut them up for her so she can eat them. It sometimes takes a few days to see how many she needs - too little doesn't help, too many causes some crazy dirty diapers.
Anyway, I don't know if the straight prunes would help better than the prune juice, but it might be worth a try.
Hope you get it figured out soon.
