Constellation Energy?

Has anyone switched their electrical carrier from ComEd to Constellation? Just got a letter saying we are automatically switched over unless we opt out (due to deal our city made with them). It's a fixed rate at 4.797 cents/kWh. Can't tell if this is a good deal or not. Anyone know anything about this? Thank you!

What can I do next?

I can't tell you if this is a good deal or not for your area.

However you can tell if it is a good deal by looking on your last bill and seeing how much per KWH you were charged.

Then go to the web site of the new company and see how much the new company is going to charge you.
Unfortunately the reason the people in charge of this decision (city government) may have other reasons for giving the contract to Constellation and it may be in their best interests, not yours.

I'm on the water board of directors for a small water district and I'm amazed at the reasons they do things. I ran for office because they passed higher rates and didn't seem to care about us rate payers. I've been working to reduce the rates and no one but me wants to rebate money to the rate payers. They want to find different ways of spending any savings.

Good luck to you and yours.

Check with your city first. There are several news stories lately about people either having someone come to their door telling them this or receiving a letter in the mail--and it is not true. I think one of the burbs was Oak Park. Even though they are looking into it, they had not made a decision.
I had a guy come to my house last week. He was with some utility and he wanted to view my Comed bill to compare the account number to make sure I was getting something I was supposed to have. I told him no. I don't get a bill. But then he insisted I go online to get my account number, that is all he needed. Yeah, i told him I don't think so, not giving out my account number. they get your nubmer and switch you without your knowledge.

They has something similar across the river on the news. They had some lady from Ameren Illinois telling the news viewers this was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Sorry but when the biggest electricity provider, an over on your side gas too, tells you it is the greatest thing since sliced bread I think it is not.

I know nothing about the particulars but watching that news story all I could think is those poor people across the river. I would dig deeper if I were you.

Call your current provider and find out what your average rate is for the year (in KwH).

That should help you to decide whether to opt out or not.
