Was just wondering others opinion on this birth control. I have heard good things and bad things about it. Any input would be great. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Love it!! I've had it for 6 months and it's going great! Cramping after insertion was a little painful, but manageable. I haven't noticed any other side effects....and my 3 friends that have it also love it!
Good luck!

I've had the mirena for 3 months and have had Aunt Flow here too. It's been the worst 3 months of my life. I also had to go through a 2 day process to get the thing in. I had to get shots and he had to put an inducing strip in and leave it over night since I've had only c-sects. I used to have 1/2 a day to 1 day periods and never cramped. Now I cramp all the time and have pains in my stomach and severe pains in my back. I also know of another girl who had this as well and her IUD somehow went into her abdomin and she had a serious infection and is about to undergo surgery. For me, having a foreign object planted in my body is just not working out. My doc told me to hang in there for 3 months and that 3 months is almost up. Also, I haven't checked into this yet, but one girl I know was going to get the mirena and her doc told her by law he had to inform her that it was like aborting a baby b/c the eggs still get fertilized. they just don't get the nutrients they need to survive. Like I said, I haven't checked into that yet, but if I know it's true and would have known I wouldn't have got this. Guess it's snip snip time for the hubby. Good luck

I just got Mirena in December. The insertion was uncomfortable and I did have cramping. I work nights and did not go into work that night because the cramping was worse than what I was used to. It was almost like having contractions. The next day was better, but I still had a little cramping. I had the cramping off and on for a couple weeks. I have not had a period since then, but have had a little break through bleeding. So far, I have had no complications and really like that I don't have to remember to take a pill every day. My doctor gave me information on it and had a consultation with me first before I decided on it. I know I had heard all of the horror stories too, but thought I would give it try because every woman's body is different. Good luck in your decision.

I've had mine for over a year and the only side effects I have thus far is moodiness: my temper is shorter, I'm more on edge, and for these reasons I'm having it removed. My husband can't wait!

Please be careful and look into the side effects.

I work with a girl (late 20s and very healthy) who had a baby in December of 2006 and chose Mirena. By December 2007, she had developed an ovarian cyst the size of a golf ball, had surgery and lost 1 ovary.

Her Dr. told her that ovarian cysts are a side effect of Mirena.

Good Luck!

I had it for 8 month, those 8 months were hell for me. I have 2 friends that have them and love them. So it just depends on you and your body.

I was going to use Mirena but unfournatly my insurance didn't cover it, and I talk to a few other people with different insurances and theirs didn't cover it either. So you will definatly need to ask your doctor about that, but if you still want it you can order and work out a payment plan with the company but I think you have to put about $250 down, but from what I understand from my obgyn it is definatly worth it. You can visit the website and get more info on the payment process.

I've had mine for 3 years and love it. I was very anti-pill or hormone based birth control methods because of my mood swings. However I haven't had any major mood issues and I love not having a period (or light spotting instead or my former 7 day plus heavy periods I had before).

It wasn't that painful to have inserted (felt like heavy cramping from a regular period for a couple minutes) and then just a few days of spotting afterwards.

Everyone is going to be different and there will always be exceptions. But I think of all the people I know that have it and it works well from them.

Good luck with your decision!

I had mine for 3 wks but had to have mine removed due to me having SEVERE CONSTANT sharp pelvic pain and felt so much better afterwards.

I would definitely think about it. I don't not suggest it.
Good Luck,.

Hi L.,

I'd highly recommend speaking with your obgyn about the specifics. There are so many anecdotal stories out there. Different women respond differently.

I had the Mirena for about 3 or 4 months, then removed it because I decided to have another baby. I loved it - insertion and removal weren't too bad, just like one fast cramp. Other than that I didn't have any trouble. I got pregnant after it was removed and plan on getting another after my twins are born.

Good luck!
