Considering a Move to the Lakewood or Surrounding Area..IDEAS

I'm a single mom that loves to lead an active lifestyle (jogging, biking, blading, walking, enjoying eclectic cafe's, working out, nice parks, etc.) and hail from San Francisco and the surrounding area. I had bought a home in Flower Mound so as to encourage a relationship between my daughter and her father following our divorce. (She's now 3.5) He got remarried and is no longer a part of her life. (It's VERY hard to understand and, well, frankly disgusting!) ;o) I'm finally realizing it's OKAY for me to move somewhere I want to live...I am SOOOO not happy living in suburbia. I love what I've seen around the White Rock Lake area...the shops, cafe's, running/biking trails, energy, etc. I know the various areas have different names and I was hoping I could be directed as such. I know I won't be able to get something quite as nice as I had out here...but that's "out here!" I will likely rent at first. What areas are nice, safe, reasonable and in great proximity (walking or several miles is fine) to the Lakewood area? I work from home so travel to any workplace is not a concern. Thank you!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
My neigbborhood (Old Lake Highlands)has a couple of homes for rent- one nice one on Easton. If you come down and just drive through you will find them. We are less than 2 miles from the Lake, have a new park being built in the fall, a great neighborhood school....
Put the interesection of Easton and Peavy in your Mapquest- the boundries are roughly NW hwy, Buckner, Lake Highlands RD.

Rent for a 3 bedroom 1600 sq ft is approx 1500/m (that is variable obviously).

There are tons of families w/ kids walking the neighborhood. We have been here 13 years w/ no crime problems.

I'm happy to chat more if you want to e-mail me- ____@____.com

OR Come on b y for a cup of coffee :-)

My husband and I live in Hollywood Santa Moncia.. here is the website to our association :

http://www.hsmna.org/

This is a great neighborhood, we are a conservation district of Tudors. The Santa Fe trail is coming through our neighborhood, so that it will connect you to Katy Trail and White Rock Trail- these should be done by the beginning of 2008. There are many neighborhoods around here. We are in walking distance to great parks, food and shops. Take a look! We also have a great Mom's group that we do a few times a month, but also host an online community for questions/play dates and what not. There is also a great ladies wine night once a month - one lady will host at their house, and it changes month to month. There are a lot of single ladies around - single mom's..all of it, so there are others to talk with and become friends with that aren't all married. I've been there, I am remarried now, but was a single mom for a few years!

I don't live in Dallas as yet, but the areas I've been looking at, and that have been recommended to me are: Little Forest Hills, Lake Highlands, and Old Lake Highlands. I actually found a small house I love in the Lochwood neighborhood. I think the zip codes for that area are 75218 and 75238. So you can search those online and see if anything comes up that you like.
