I don't know why but we've been advised by our ped to use cool mist, so we do.
What is the difference between cool and warm air vaporizers? How to decide which is the best to use? Thanks!
I don't know why but we've been advised by our ped to use cool mist, so we do.
Our ped. always told us to use a cool mist humidifier for the two reasons: 1. Warm mist ones can burn a child if they touch it, and 2. it could possibly overheat the room which who lead to an increased risk of SIDS.
As my kids got older and moved to toddler beds I was worried about them getting burned by the warm mist humidifier, so we have always stuck to cool. I think generally it is a personal choice?
Im not sure what the difference is or when to use the different options.. for reasons like MS pointed out plus we were told that the warm vaporizes can harbor, reproduce and spread unwanted germs.
When ever our Ped has told us to use warm vapor ( really stuffed up nose)she has always suggested turning the shower to hot and letting the bathroom fill up with the steam and stand in the bathroom for a few mins and let the baby breathe in the steam. That could be another option for you.
For over night in a room we have always used the cool vaporizers.
I use the warm air vaporizers. The cool don't seem to work at all, although I did find a good filterless humidifier that works well. I use the warm because it's the only thing that helps them breathe. You do have to keep it out of their reach (the cord too), and clean often.
We always used a cool mist vaporizer. We also added a drop of mint oil to help witht he congestion.
