Does anyone know of some good home remedies for a congested infant. I already took him to the doctor and they prescribed some medicine that is not working to well.

What can I do next?

When my daughter was congested, I gave her infant tylenol drops that had some cold remedies in it. That plus the medicine the dr prescribed and she was feeling better in no time.

I always hated that. I dont know if you breast feed but it always seemed worse when mine were nursing, my doctor gave me an idea. She told me to rub some of the baby vapor cream on my boob after the baby latched on(above the nose so like 2 inhes above your nipple that always worked for feeding. Of course I hate hearing just use saline. but I just elevated the bed to. Nothing ever worked for sleep. Unless maybe you put them in the carseat in the crib. Mine would never do that though. Good luck.

I would also try Vicks Vapor Rub for infants. It always worked for mine.

Try using a cold mist humidifier, too.

A steamy bathroom, reduce or remove dairy from the diet, saline nose spray and suction (do the spray, then wait 10 min before suction, do this before meals and naps and after waking in the morning), humidifier in the room.

I used Saline solution and it always worked for both of my girls. I would usually use Little Noses saline solution because it is the perfect size for little noses. I'd put a few drops in each nostral and wait a minute (usually change their diaper while waiting). Then, I'd use use a bulb syringe to suction the snot out. Both of my girls hated it, but it always cleared their nose so well I didn't mind the fight they'd put up while I did it.

P.,

I too used the saline solution for infants and it really helped. I would also hold my baby in the shower to get the benefit of the steam(not get her wet), and this really helped her breath easier

Hi P.,
I use a humidifier in my kids room when they are stuffy/congested. I just keep it running all day (except to clean it).I also use guaifenesin (with doctors approval and dosage amount) which really seems to help; especially with chest congestion. Steaming up the bathroom is a good way to help too. IT takes a while to work and you are all sweaty afterwards, but it helps. Also, saline in the nose will help loosen it up.

Good luck,
K.
