I LOVE State Farm!!!! I know they are more, but I think you pay for what you get!
DON'T use FARMERS...they are HORRIBLE!!!
I have had State farm for so long but they are so expensive. I have gotten several quotes from Hartford, Farmers, and Liberty Mutual with savings of over $1200/yr for both auto/home with very similar coverages. Does anyone have these particular companies for their insurance coverages? If so would you recommend one over the other or not? I am open to any suggestions, please.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the responses on Home/Auto Insurance recommendations. After reviewing most of the companies and all the coverages and policies, we are switching it all to Liberty Mutual.
They were able to save us almost 800 a year with even better auto/home/& jewelry coverage.
Thanks again, its so nice to have Mom's with local advice available on just about any topic

I would talk to an independent agent and highly recommend Barney Schwartz with Preferred Guardian - ###-###-####. He is very knowledgeble and will get you the best price. We too switched from State Farm.
Just keep in mind you get what you pay for especially if you ever have to file a claim. Hopefully you will never have to but that is usually when you find out how good your insurance is. Cheeper isn't always better!
I've always had Liberty Mutual and think they're great. We get a lot of discounts (multiple policy, long-term policyholder, education, even one through my alma mater's alumni association!), so no one can beat their price. I've only ever had excellent interactions with them--always get a real person on the phone, who is always helpful. Thankfully, I haven't had a claim in several years, but when I did they always responded well and quickly--just got things done, ya know? They also automatically adjust our homeowner's insurance every year to reflect actual replacement cost, so we won't get stuck if, God forbid, something catastrophic should happen. Good luck--I know all the insurance mess can be hard to figure out!

Just went through the same thing. My Farmers insurance just kept going up and up--we never even had any claims or tickets! My in-laws used this agent to get them a good deal when they both bought a new house. They switched over both their car and home and they said they saved a lot of money with more coverage. I didn't believe it either until I called him. over the course of the next year we will save almost $1100 with more coverage than we had before! He's easy to work with and fast. Just thought I would pass on a good experience! Here's his info:

I am in the mortgage business and see lots of insurance policies in my world. Personally, we have Farmers and have always been very happy.
A former mortgage colleague and friend of mine went into insurance for Farmers a few years ago simply because he was over-insured in some areas and under insured in others and someone finally took the time to explain it to him and he felt passionately about educating people on insurance. I know he would consult with you and help explain. He is a wonderful person.

We've used Farmer's since 1992. We were with State Farm when we moved here in 1989. I switched because I did not like the agent we had.
Our insurance is expensive but we are covered well. We have house, car, umbrella, jewelry policies. We spend just under $4800/yr on all policies.
We've had no claims. Now, my daughter turns 15 in Dec and I am not sure how much she will raise our car insurance!!
Good luck.
I would go with a personal Agent. They can get you several quotes from different companies and they will explain the differences to you. I suggest my Agent, Karen Abbey with Mullen Insurance Agency, Inc. in Garland, TX. I have my auto and home coverage with them and she is wonderful. Not only is she sweet and easy to talk to, but she understands that I dont understand the policies and she took the time to explain all my options and coverages. She even took the time to review my prior policy with Allstate and she was able to get me a better policy at a cheaper price.
Her number is ###-###-####, ext. 245.
I had State Farm for over 10 years and was so loyal to them. My husband wanted me to shop around but I loved my State Farm agent and figured we were paying a little more but nothing drastic. Finally after one day of my husband complaining a lot I called GEICO. I was shocked at the difference. Come to find out my house was under insured with State Farm, they upped my coverage and I ended up saving $150 A MONTH between my car and home owners insurance. I was amazed! They auto is actually through GEICO, but they broker out my house to Travelers.
I have never used anyone other than State Farm and GEICO but I know Farmers is a big name. I am sure that they are pretty good too. I cannot believe how much State Farm has been charging over the years

Tell him L. referred you. Good luck!
I would definitely contact an independent agent. They can "shop" around with many different big name/ reputable companies to get you the best coverage and rate possible. You should call Brad Hempkins (Hempkins Insurance in Allen). He is knowledgable, down to earth and will really put forth the effort to make sure you are taken care of. The number for his office is ###-###-####.
Good Luck!
I HIGHLY recommend David Huck. He's actually an insurance broker, who shops all the companies out there and finds you the best rate. He doesn't cost you anything. But trust me, he will save you money. We used to be with Allstate, for years. He shopped and found us BETTER coverage, and saved us almost $1,200 per year. I have also recommended him to my clients (I'm a Professional Organizer), and one of my clients ended up saving a little over $800 per year! It's at least worth a call. His number is ###-###-####.
I would never go with Farmers they suck you in and than if you need to make a claim, it is nothing but a runaround. I got hit by someone with Farmers and it took them over a month to do anything about fixing my car and than after that they decided to total my car and I was left with having to get another car and another 3.5 yrs of car payments. I would definitely pick someone else
I would like to help if you need it. I am the personal lines manager fo a company called Apex Global Partners in Dallas. I am and independent agent I use all of the fore mentioned companies. I'm not doing this to solicit your business but understand the tirals of figuring out the insurance policies.
There is also a great website to comapre coverage from a policy standpoint just google the officie of public insurance counsel or(OPIC) THAT WILL do a free comparison of the coverages for you. It really doesn't address your personal needs but it does have a great overview.
If you would like me to review your policies and help you determine what policy you need and who to go to please feel free to email or call me.

Fyi. I'm a Dad not a mom but love this site for reading tips on raising my 2 boys.

We shopped around quite a bit since we have 2 teenage boys. The best rates we found are with Texas Farm Bureau insurance. As with most companies, you get an additional discount if you also have homeowner's insurance. We have had them for several years now and they have been very responsive when we had claims, one for storm damage and one for a vandalized car.
They are excellent for people living in rural areas or smaller towns like Wylie.
Good luck!
