My husband and I are not trying to have children but we also would be ecstatic if we were to conceive. Three weeks ago this coming Sunday we had sex and I am not on birth control. I had taken an ovulating test that day and I was ovulating. We had sex again the next night. Previous to that night I had missed a period, but I was not pregnant. Now I am wondering if I am or if I still have not gotten my period. I went to the doctor and she told me it was too early to tell and I needed to wait three weeks and take another one. I have never been pregnant and you read all the symptoms but its so hard to know. My good friend told me when she was pregnant she got 4 false negatives before she got a positive at 5 weeks. My nipples are extremely sore to the touch and have never been this way before. I am really tired but I am also getting over a cold, but I am constantly worn out. I seem to be hungry more than usual as well. I am just confused and am not enjoying the "waiting" process. Is it possible for me to feel all these symptoms and not be pregnant? From your experience how long does it take for a positive to show. The tests always say to wait until your missed period but I havent had a period in about 2 months now, which is not normal for me... I am usually regular. I would appreciate any advice you may have.
I wanted to let you all know that i took a pregnancy test and it was positive!!! I made an appointment and am really excited and nervous!!! Thank you for all your responses!

When I became pregnant it took A while for me to get a positive test. I tried holding my pee all night and then first thing in the morning do the test. I think I was around 8 or 9 weeks pregnant then. Same with my second.. I also hear that some people want a baby so bad that there bodies may act like it is pregnant. Hope this helps

Dear S.,
I have not been able to have children. I have tried for many years and now I'm turning 50 next month. My husband and I have adopted a beautiful girl @ 4 days old when I was around 40ish.
I have had many experiences where my body would do everything that your body is doing now. The mind is a powerful thing. It is able to give you symptoms when you hope you are pregnant and you become not pregnant. My advice to you is to use a Basel thermometer and see if your temp. stays high for a week Doctor should be able to tell if you haven't had a menstrual in 2 months seek another doctor. I will pray that the Lord gives you a beautiful child soon either by adopting one or conceiving on your own. Enjoy your new married life and don't stress out this can cause infertility too. You can always have both of you tested now to be sure that everything looks good so you can plan your family.

yes it is possible to have the symptoms and not be preg. because you may want to be so badly that you make yourself feel all the symptoms (the mind is a powerful thing)
But seems to me that if you are tired and have sore breast.... I BET YOU ARE !!!!!!!!
Happy Pregnancy!!!! Enjoy! It is fun!

I totally agree with the other advice that was given. Considering you haven't been pregnant before, we tend to understand more with our bodies than anyone else and can determine the symptons earlier than a test. I was 4 weeks exactly when I found out I was pregnant. As far as the doctor saying it was too early, yes they could have done a blood test to be 100% positive, I'm surprised they didn't. They usually do these days. All you really can do is either see another doctor, wait a it out to see if you have a period and take another test.
Best of luck to you, and congratulations if you are.

Sounds like you are pregnant! You have all the symptoms I had with my pregnancy with girls so who knows! You could also be getting your body to think you are pregnant too. The Mind is so wierd. But I think you are pregnant. Take a test, I think First Response can tell you as early as 5 weeks. At 5 weeks I started the nausea and vomitting it was horrible/great at the same time! Good luck

2 other things to consider...does your urine smell a bit different than usual & does physical activity cause an unusually quick drop in energy? I cannot answer your 'how long should I wait' question, but I can recommend something to do while you wait. Take some time to read through the beginning chapters of "What to Expect When You're Expecting". It has been very helpful to me while anticipating & being pregnant. Another thing I would suggest, since your appetite is up anyway, eat as many fruits & vegetables as possibe. If you are indeed pregnant, the baby will most definately benefit from such a diet - the first weeks are suppose to be the most crucial in the baby's development. And, of course, if you're not prgnant this time, you certainly haven't wasted your time. As a matter of fact, the reading & eating will make you even better prepared to be pregnant in the future.
What an exciting time for you & your husband! Good luck with everything & enjoy!!

I took the EPT pregnancy tests once every week when we were trying to get pregnant, and I was already 6-1/2 weeks pregnant before I got a "positive" test result. Every test before that had given me a definitive "not pregnant" result. I actually didn't believe the test results until we saw the ultrasound (showing the baby's heartbeat) the next day because I had NO pregnancy symptoms whatsoever; no fatigue, no tenderness, no nausea, nothing. Good luck on starting your family!!!!

Hi S., I would say yes it IS possible to get pregnant THAT QUICK. For my second child it only took making love ONCE and that was it.
Anyways, for both of my pregnancies, extremely sore nipples was the quickest indicator. I read somewhere that this can occur within a few days of conception and that is pretty much what I noticed for me. They were so sore that I got to place where I did not want anyone to touch them and usually I am nipple/touch friendly.
It is not foolproof but also the great fatigue you are feeling is another indicator. until you know for certain I would act as if you were and take all the precautions with your diet and drinking/smoking habits. The first trimester is an extremely important time of development for the fetus. Good luck!

You might be pregnant, don't get me wrong, but I can tell you from experience that when you're trying to get pregnant you notice symptoms in your body that you never noticed before, even when you're not pregnant. I've had every symptom you mentioned before, and then not been pregnant. Yet, when I've actually been pregnant, I've never had the sore nipples, so go figure.
Your friend probably got four false negative b/c she was testing too early. Remember that 5 weeks pregnant doesn't mean she'd actually been pregnant 5 weeks...it's only a couple of weeks past conception, so anything before that is pretty early for a home test.
Good luck! I hope you get what you are hoping for this time around. If you are not pregnant, you might want to get with your doctor about why you haven't had your cycle in two months. It could be a sign of several things...things that could hinder you getting pregnant until you get them resolved.

Ask your doctor for a blood test. It s more sensitive and will tell you for sure if your hormone levels have increased. Then find a new doctor. Ant doctor that does not take your concerns to heart and do anything to prove you right or wrong is not one you need to have. Because if it is not pregnancy its something else and it is her/his job to rule/find out what it could be. Just telling you to wait is dangerous if it is something that needs early treatment.
I was 3 1/2 weeks pregnant when the test indicated it and the blood test confirmed it. I had no symptoms. But remember, everyone is different.
Good luck and God Bless,

Hi S..
I do believe you can talk yourself into believing that you are feeling things. I also believe that you know your body better than anyone. I know the waiting is difficult, but they do make tests now that you can tell even sooner. I am sure they are pricey, but you may want to wait another week or so and take it. Can't hurt anything. It may come up some strange color. Your doctor can do a blood test and tell you whether your pregnant very very early. My niece was about two weeks when they told her and she was shocked as she wasn't supposed to be able to have children due to her thyroid not working properly and not having periods. You may have your thyroid checked as well if you don't start your period and you aren't pregnant.
Something to think about....
Good luck to you.

It's absolutely possible to "feel" pregnant and not be. I was just "sure" I was pregnant with my second. But I wasn't. So don't feel like it's you doing something wrong. I know it's hard to wait but that's what you've got to do. Just treat yourself as though you are until you find out for sure. Don't take any medicine that can effect the baby, don't drink alcohol, etc.

I believe that we can unconciously give ourselves symptons of pregnancy if we want it badly enough.... On the other hand, I am a mother of 3 and have NEVER had a positive test without taking at least 3 negatives first. Everytime I was pregnant... The test these days are much better than they were, but your best bet is to wait until after you are sure you have missed your period, use the first mornings urine (it is more concentrated) and follow the steps for the test exactly.... You can always go have a blood test (serum HCG) done as well. The doctors are not usually too excited to run them though.
My best friend is seeing a fertility specialist and the MD told her to get her pregnancy test and the dollar store, relax, and wait until she had missed her period... Considering you have not had one in 2 months, I am unsure what to really tell you.
Other things that can contribute to breast soreness are stress, increased caffeine intake and hormonal shifts.
For me the biggest "sign" was fatigue and increased urination, also an initial increase in appetite followed by heighted sense of smell...
Hope some of this helps and I hope there is a little one in your belly, I just had my third 3 weeks ago and I can tell you it is the BEST "job" you will ever have!!
Good luck!

Hey S.,
Get one of the early response pregnancy test. I was only 4 weeks pregnant when I found out. Being 4 weeks pregnant is actually only 2 weeks since conception. You count how many weeks pregnant you are based on the first day of your last period. I did a test 8 days before my period was to begin and it was negative. But, I took another test FIRST THING IN THE MORNING 1 day before my period was suppose to start and there was a faint 2nd line. Two days later at the doctors office, that faint second line became a dark second line.
The reason I began taking test was that I was EXTREMELY tired! And I had the strangest feeling of heartburn. I'm not sure why that was a pregnancy symtom for me, but it was. My breast didn't actually start getting sore until I was probably 7 to 8 weeks pregnant, but I have heard othe women say it happened much quicker for them.
There are other reasons for a missed period though, such as ovarian cyst. These can actually make you feel like you are pregnant. By the cyst attaching itself to yuor ovary, it can mess with your horomone levels causing you to have pregnancy symptoms.
Some women have told me that they did not get a positive pregnancy test until 2 to 3 weeks after the missed period. My advise would be to visit your primary doctor and have them take some blood. If you are pregnant, this test will show MUCH quicker than a urine test. But again, make sure you do the urine test first thing when you wake up. Also, if you suspect you may be preggo, go ahead and start the prenatal vitamins. The period of time (development) before you even know you are pregnant is actually one of the most crucial times to get the folic acid and other beneficial stuff out of the vitamins.
Good luck and let us know!!

Well, I am sure it is possible to feel pregnant and not be, but you sure do sound like I felt a few weeks ago with a cold and well, I am 10 weeks along now.
As for the doctor telling you to wait and take another pregnancy test in a few weeks to see, is there not blood work they can do?? Even when I got a positive pregnancy test at home the doctor said they could do blood work to stronger confirm if I wanted. I know a lot of people who find out from blood work and not just from home prenancy tests. You may want to ask...two months of a missed period for someone who is regular is for sure NOT normal I would not think!!
I wish you well, and praise the Lord for a baby if you are pregnant. They are the great gift!!

I don't mean to be rude but I think you need to find a new dr. There are over the counter pregnancy tests that can tell you your pregnant before your missed period, so why didn't your dr take a urine sample and do his own test when you asked about it. I'm pretty sure most Dr.s that you tell you might be pregnant too would immediatly order a urine sample. I say go to the grocery store and get another test. Whether it comes back neg or pos. find a new dr and get checked out if you are still feeling fatigued, overly hungery, sick to your stomach or sore breast or nipples. For my second pregnancy my breast were so tender and swollen a week before I was even supposed to get my period. It's different for everyone though, Good Luck, Jenny

Like you, my husband and I were not trying to get pregnant when we did. The first thing that I noticed was the sore nipples. This is what made me think I was pregnant, however, I didn't have any other signs. About a week later, I was supposed to have my period and was cramping like I was about to start. The period never came. I took a pregnancy test after a week of cramping and it was positive. The cramping threw my off but after the fact I learned that it was another sign. After I found out I was pregnant, the other symptoms started (naseau, weight gain, etc...). Good luck!!!

I have preggo symptoms all the time. I have had two babies already but always think I am pregnant. I have missed periods but I am on the pill and it tends to make me do that. The fact that you are not on the pill and have missed two periods AND are usually very regular could mean you are indeed preggers or there may be some other hormonal thing going on.
If you don't like what your doctor told you I would go to another one.
When I got pregnant with my first I had extremly sore breasts, was extremely tired, very unfocused, and I gained ten pounds. I still didn't realize I was pregnant until I missed a period in my second month but I got my period the first month I was pregnant. I took a test and it showed positive right away...before the three minute wating period was up. I went to the doc and he said I was about 8 to 12 weeks along.
I guess what I am getting at is that pregnancy is different from one to the next. So even if you are or aren't experienceing the same symptoms as others I would still go see another doctor.
A second opinion can't hurt, especially if there could be something more serious at hand.
Hope you get your answers soon!

Ask your doctor for a simple blood test called a BETA HCG it will give you your hcg levels which are detectable before OTC urine tests. Either way your doctor should be looking at why you have stopped having your period for two months.

So anyways, i'm in the same boat as you, except, i had my period last month and waiting to get my period this month. I've heard though, that you can trick your mind into thinking that you are pregnant, and have all these symptoms. But, with you not having a period for 2 months, thats alittle unusual. Just wanted to say i was in your boat. Good luck with everything!

Hi S.,
When my husband and I got pregnant, I had a period 1 week after conception but it only lasted about 2 days. And it came only 2 1/2 weeks after my last period. I had always been regular like clock work with my periods so I knew something was up.
That was 24 years ago and now my son has a little girl of his own. :)
I'm kind of surprised that your doctor told you it takes so long to get a positive reading. Especially in this day and age. When I went to our local health dept in 1984, they were able to do a blood test which was positive, only a month after conception.
And today, there are so many over the counter pregnancy tests that can detect pregnancy a lot sooner.
I wish you well and hope you get the family you want whether it's biologically or not. :)

With my first pregnancy, we were trying to get pregnant. The first month we tried, I started feeling symptoms a few days after we had sex. I kept telling myself it was all in my head and i could not possibly get pregnant that quick or have symptoms that quick. A took a test that was supposed to detect pregnancy 4 days before you miss your period. It was negative. A few days later when I did not start, I took another test. It was positive but the line was very faint. I took several more tests over the next few days and the line kept getting darker. A blood test at the dr. also confirmed it. Hope this helps.

I would take another test and see what it says. Then, I would make an appointment to see an OB/GYN. You need to figure out why you're not getting your period anymore. Especially because you say you've always been regular. Sore boobs, fatigue, frequent potty trips....those are all pregnancy symptoms. Definitely go to an OB/GYN and get checked out to see what's up if you get another negative test.

Hi there. I personally think that you are probably pregnant. Ovulation is the key to conception and if a test said that you were ovulating then period or not you could get pregnant. I have had two children and 3 very early miscarriages prior to my second and with all of them breast sensitivity was the immediate symptom for me. Yes, translating the signs your body gives is difficult but somehow the hormones send your brain a signal that becomes stronger every day. I agree with the other people that have said that they are suprised that your Dr. didn't perform a blood test (not very proactive if you ask me----especially if you were there already). I also agree that the wait is terrible but just try to relax and test in a few days. Good luck. Somehow I think that cangrats are in order. Please let us know.

you can have all of those symptoms and not be pregnant. the more you read about the signs of pregnancy, the more symptoms you will have. you will just have to play the waiting game. we have all done it and it sucks for us all. it can take several weeks for your hormone levels to get high enough to read on a pregnancy test. also, if you are not trying to get pregnant, why are you using ovulation kits? sounds to me like you are trying harder than you want to admit. being stressed out about wanting to be pregnant can also cause all of your symptoms, and make it harder to get pregnant. we tried for almost 5 months to conceive, and then we stopped because i was so stressed. we had a very relaxing and private anniversary while our daughter stayed at my parents house, and low and behold, 9 months latter a little boy joined our family.

I found out I was pregnant about a week after I conceived. I had just started trying, got sick, and wouldn't take any medicine because I was afraid I may be pregnant and the meds could hurt the baby. My husband, seeing me shaking and ill, begged me to take a test to prove to me that I wasn't pregnant so I could take some medicine and feel better. I took it, and the faintest line you could imagine showed up. Yes it was extrememely faint, but the line did show up. However, that was the early response type that allows you to know five days before your first missed period. I think I conceived on the 12th of January and found out I was pregnant on the 19th. I hope this helps.
