Coloring Only Greys

Mamas and papas. My hair is about 15% grey. I'm naturally dark brown. I'd like to color it so it looks like I've got turquoise highlights but I don't want the whole thing looking blue. What do I have to ask for at the salon?

Thanks
F. B.

Honestly, I just go to the salon and tell my hair dresser what I want. I let them figure the rest out. I think if you go in and say "I'd like to color it so it looks like I've got turquoise highlights but I don't want the whole thing looking blue" they will make that happen for you.

I think if you say what you said here, as Mom2kCk below says - they'll get what you mean.

Here's what mine does. I have a bit more grey than you do - I'm naturally light brown. Because I don't want to color my whole head and I'm ok with grey, my stylist just uses foils targeted towards the top of my head where the greys are most noticeable. So in each foil I've got grey and some light brown. She puts in a lighter caramel color and so the greys turn lighter caramel - more like a highlight - and my regular hair looks a tiny bit brighter. So overall I look like I have highlights because the grey looks like caramel highlights.

She doesn't get all of my grey, but I'm ok with that. The overall effect is little bit of grey, caramel highlights and light brown hair.

So I am guessing they would do something like that for you. Hope that made sense :)

Maybe bring in a photo - google "turquoise highlights" and see if any of those images look good to you.

why do you think they won't get it if you state it just as you do here?
grey can be hard to cover, so they may have to bleach the grey section first.

I would find an image of exactly what I wanted. They don't need to color your hair before doing the blue. That's just extra processing.

Funny- I have the opposite problem. I like my "silver" but not my natural roots. Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution... yet. Maybe I'll have to suck it up and spend more than $40 to find the right stylist.
