THE HAPPIEST BABY ON THE BLOCK, by Dr. Harvey Karp - that's all I have to say.....It is a wonderful DVD. There are books out there too. But, that DVD is phenomenal.

I used Hylands Colic tablets to help my daughter, they are all natural. They worked well for me.

My chid was colicy as well. AND BAD! So, I searched around to find out what I could do, as the Doctors were no help...just wait it out is what they said.

My son was cured completely the minute I started doing this method. It is called the Towle method. http://www.babycolic.com/ It saved my sanity, and releived him of all the pain associated with colic. Please check it out. After reading about the technique, feel free to ask me any questions! (it is free info)

Good Morning Janelle~
Oh I can relate very well to what you are going through. My 14 yr had colic really bad, I sought advice from family, the best I got was recording the sound if the vaccuum running or the clothes dryer; I did both. I found the vaccuum noise was best. Since then however they have developed some quick dissolve colic tablets, that work beautifully. My nephew (at the time was 6 mths) now he is 15mths, we used them for him. You can only get them at Fred Meyers in the health food section. Small white bottle.
This is what I recommend.
Good Luck

Hi Janelle, my daughter was a colicy baby. She would cry for no apparent reason (but appear to be almost angry or in pain) and this crying was worse starting in the late afternoon through the night. I used Gripe Water, which is available online or at health food stores to help, because I found the swaddling or gas drops didn't do a lot for her to help. I also found that she really enjoyed the swing. From all that I read, colic typically lasts about 3 months; however, I did consult Dr. Susan Allen, ND - a naturopathic doctor in SE Portland about 2 months into the colic because I was pretty distraught by then. Also being a first time mommy, I could not understand why my baby, even a colicy baby, cried SO much! She gave me some homeopathic drops that I feel helped my daughter a great deal. It may have been that she was starting to outgrow colic by then, or it may have been the drops. We'll never know, but I would advise calling sooner rather than later if it will elminate some of the stress for you. I know how it feels to be a sleep-deprived new mommy with a colicy baby. Hang in there! My daughter is now one of the happiest, well-adjusted kids in the world and she is not a cranky child. Whatever colic is, it will pass. Good luck!

Hi Janelle!

Emily Grace had colic that started at 6 weeks. It started with extreme uncontrollable fussiness that started every day at about 4 p.m. until bedtime. It was a night mare...but you will get past it!

We have an Infintano front pack that became our life saver! When she would get started, we would put her in there facing us and I would walk circles around the inside of our home bouncing and shushing. We also used a pacifier at this time too.

Em was over it at about 3 - 3 1/2 months. We also used to bring her knees to her chest to get air bubbles out!

Ever heard of a super swaddle? If not, email me back and I will explain in detail! Majical gift that was "passed" on to me!

Good luck!!

Leish & Em

When I had my son his Dr. suggested I read "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Harvey Karp. It talks about the 5 ways that help calm babies. It worked pretty well. By 4 months I think ia when babies start learning to calm themselves and are less colicky.

Janelle,
I have a 5 month old, and she is still suffering, but not nearly as bad. I feel for you Sister!
I agree with the first gal, Gripe Water. We found that not all brands are created equal, and found the brand that Fred Meyers carries in their organic dept worked best. The gas drops, and colic tablets did not work for us.
Good luck, J.

I also highly suggest "Happiest Baby on the Block." My daughter was colicky for about three months it seems and I read this book towards the end of it, but the methods worked immediately. I wish I had found it in the beginning.

just to confuse the issue, I thought my son had colic and attributed it to my fast let down and such. I tryed the colic tabs which seemed to help a bit but not really, I tried pumping and feeding with a bottle but to no availe, and then my aunt mentioned her childrens milk protien intolerance. I cut dairy out of my diet and within 2 weeks I had a much healthier baby. At that point (4months old) it took me almost another month to break him of the habit of waking every few hours. With my daughter, when she started showing signs of discomfort and fussyness I imediately switched to soy formula (she wouldnt nurse) and later to rice milk. The whey (milk protien found in MANY prepared foods and all dairy products) causes gas and sometimes mild diarea. My son is now almost 3 and if he gets whey for some reason (mom forgot to read the back of the granola bars) he will wake in the night, sometimes not even crying but not able to go back to sleep. My first pediatrican said that milk intolorance was an old wives tale but the one I have now knows better. They do get better at tolorating some dairy, at least my aunts children have. Good luck, remember to take a breather now and then, even if its just to the kitchen for a cold glass of water (by yourself).
