Take him to the pedi. A friend of mine has a son who gets them and they put him on an oral medication - can't remember the name though.
Has anyone had experience with a baby getting cold sores? I think my 11 month old has them, and I'm not sure if I need to do anything for it or not. I've never had them, and my only experience with the Herpes Simplex Virus (1, not 2) has been my 3 yr old son getting a bad case of it around his eyes, which got lots of attention and a couple different anti-viral medications. Any advice would be appreciated.

I use a product called mela gel and it works great on sores, cut, etc. If you want to find out more information about, let me know. I hope that this will help.
There is nothing you can do for cold sores, except wait for them to go away. I have gotten cold sores my entire life. I hate them as long as the fever or "redness" around the sore is gone they are not contagious. You need to wash your hands eveytime you have touched anything in contact with them. The abreva med over the counter works ok, but not sure about babies. Give a little tylonol for the pain because they hurt, other then that, not much you can do.
yes they unfortunately can get them, especially if they accidentally drink after someone who is getting one or has one. They can call in the zovirax cream for them you just have to be very careful applying it. I have been in medical a long time but i was shocked when my 2 yr old got one as well. It can happen but i would make sure with their pedi that it is one before you start treating it! Good luck A.

If you had the Chicken Pox, ever, you have had Herpes Simplex 1... that's where the varicella zoster virus that is Chicken Pox comes from. So if you had Chicken Pox you could have passed the virus on to your baby. you can pass the virus on to your baby.
Or your 3 yr old could've passed it on to the baby. It doesn't take much to infect someone. The infection is life long. That's why some folks get Shingles later in life.
I would take the baby to the doctor, it can be a very uncomfortable experience and can have other issues. Besides you don't know for sure what it is, so I wouldn't delay.
