Coffee Makers

My hubby and I are having a great debate over coffee makers. He wants to get one that is a multi cup and I would like a single cup. The last coffee maker he bought was $50 and 2 years later after it being cleaned several times the coffee tastes like garbage. He makes a pot of coffee on the weekends and 1/4-1/2 of it goes in the trash. During the week I would like 1 cup but I have to make 2 to get one. I'm trying to sell him on the idea of a single cup. What do you think?

Thanks!

The one we have currently makes 8 cups not much waste but still waste because he buys Dunkin Donuts coffee.

First, select a cone filter type it makes better coffee and uses less as well. Then select a maker that has pot size selection. Usually the range is 1-4 and 5-8+. Another tip; use distilled or other bottled or filtered water for better coffee flavor.

LOVE my single cup Keurig. I've had mine several years, we could only find them online at that time, and have never had a problem with it. But my DH doesn't drink coffee so the single cup convenience is all I need.

I love love love my Senseo coffee makers. I think they now produce Senseo coffee makers that brew two cups at a time. The coffee that is produced rivals Starbucks or Coffee Bean coffees. I loved my home Senseo so much, that I purchased one for my personal use in my office. My coffee makers are almost 4 years old and they continue to brew excellent tasting coffee. I've actually saved a lot of money since I no longer go to the fancy coffee places. The pods are available at grocery stores and Target. Each bag contains 16-18 pods and cost ~$4.50 (the price of a grande cup). The bags are even cheaper if you hit Target during a sale. The price per cup (with flavored creamer) = $0.39/ cup brewed.
I've also heard of the Keurig, but haven't had an opportunity to try it. Plus, my Senseo works just fine.

I have a Cuisinart and love it. I own the one with the thermal carafe which keeps the coffee hot and fresh for hours. It's worth the money. It is the best coffeemaker that I have ever owned. I've been a coffee drinker all my life and have bought many coffeemakers throughout. The 4 cup coffeemakers, in my opinion, make the worst coffee AND I don't like the ones with the glass carafe either.

Just my opinion,

M

I have a Kuerig and my mother has the Breville (which also takes K-cups) -- I won't ever go back to a multi-cup making machine. Every cup is hot and fresh and takes seconds. There is no nasty pot, filter or parts to have sit or get funky. Plus, you can buy K-cups for hot tea, hot cocoa, etc. Much more functionality then the usual coffee maker. As to the "not hot enough" our Kuerig brews at 190 degrees. It's VERY hot. I use a ton of cream and it doesn't make it too cold.

Could you talk to him about buying one to try - since you've had a multicup for years, if you hate it -- you can return it within the return period. Kohl's sells the Kuerig coffee makers and they are very reasonable with their return policy. Seems like you have nothing to lose to at least try one and see if you really like it.

Maybe you can find a smaller one that 10 or 12 cups. I think they make 4 cups.......that might help......I don't think a one cup will work for your husband.....
Good Luck and do some research......

We have the single cup one at my office. I love the thought of this and if we ever have one in our house again, I will insist on it. There is no clean up, you put in the little single thing, and out comes the coffee, so much faster than brewing the whole pot, and you don't have to drink the same thing as everyone else!

Get both and everyone will be happy. :)

We have a Cuisinart Grind & Brew and have loved it for years now. My only tiny complaint is that it can be time consuming to clean but it's well worth it because it makes delicious coffee. We also recently received the Kuerig as a gift and love it too. We tend to use the Cuisinart only on the weekends now and the Kuerig during the week or for a quick cup of coffee here and there.

I agree with other posters that both of these machines make great coffee & it's always hot. I like strong, dark coffee so we tend to buy the dark roasts when buying K-cups or we use our own with the special insert that can be purchased seperately (which can save a lot of money too).

Good luck!

I have the Kuerig and love it. My husband doesn't drink coffee that much and I was always having a hard time making 2 cups taste right. I brought the Kuerig and have a perfect cup of coffee whenever I want. I also brought the hot chocolate and some teas. Tell your husband the coffee is very hot. My daughter has to put ice cubes in the hot chocolate before you can drink and I have to use cream to cool the coffee.

Husband didn't like the single cup because the coffee was not hot enough. He has settled on the 4 cup also.

Just saw the coffee maker in my closet this weekend and thought I need to get rid of it. If you lived next door, you could just have it and try it out and see if it works for you.

Good luck on your decision!
