So I have been elected the "team mom" for my sons teeball team. As the season in quickly approching an end I wanted to reach out to this great source of women to recommend a gift for the coach. We only have 7 players on the team (2 of them being the coaches twin boys) so I don't want to ask for too much money from each parent. Any suggestions are welcome.

What can I do next?

My kids love there coach. With money tight in the world, we didn't want to trouble parents. We got one of the baseballs the team won with and had all the kids sign it. Then we went to a sporting store and bought a case for the ball. It cost like $3.00. We went to AC Moores and got rub on letters. We put the team name and year. The coach said it was the best gift he ever received. Good luck!

What about tickets to the Iron Pigs? You can actually get a gift card and they can use it for tickets, food, etc at the park. You can get $20 gift card and an iron pigs t'shirt. I did this for my Dad's birthday. Loved it! Seems to fit with the baseball theme!

There are two excellent paths to choose here. I have been an educator for years and even tho I love my students like my own kids, I really do not need another trinket or homemade picture from each child. My daughters's school asks parents to pool their monitary gifts and puts it all into a target gift card. That way the teacher can use it for his/her family and each amount is hidden thus protecting families from feeling bad if their amouunt is smaller than others. Second, I loved when the group made a handmade gift like a bag or a mug which I could use and remember the group. Good Luck!

A gift card to either a restaurant or a sporting goods store or a home improvement store is a good choice. Even a $25 gift card is a nice gesture.

Hi J.,

Has someone been taking pictures of the season? You could make him a little scrapbook of the year or even a framed photo of all the boys and him.

We did a t-shirt for my daughter's soccer coach. Buy a plain white shirt and fabric markers and have the kids write their name and number on it. Great gift for the coach to remember the team and inexpensive too.

Or you could also ask each parent for a donation towards buying a gift card for the coach. This way you aren't directly asking for too much money, but each parent can decide what they feel is appropriate or within their budget. Then get the gift card for his favorite restaurant or (sports) store.

Good luck!

What about a plate of cookies?? If you could find it at Micheals or some craft store, decorating a plate with special paint pens,--have all the kids sign it etc would make it even more special. i know I've seen decorate a Mug pretty cheap, not sure where to get a plate. Anybody know?

I, also have to vote for the photo idea, you could blow it up to an 8x10 for under $5, or check on snapfish for photo gifts like magnets or key chains or a tie or something. But again, i would probably want to keep it inexpensive.

Thanks for taking the time to appreciate people like your coach!! What a lovely thing to do!

I say keep it simple. My husband was an assistant coach last year for baseball and the team pitched in $5-10 each to buy a restaurant gift card for the coach & assistant coach. Plus each kid signed the card with a little "thanks, etc". It was very nice & they were surprised and enjoyed dinner out - on the team!

Hi J.,

We bought our coach a whistle, which coach does not need a whistle!

I went to Michael's bought a little gift box that would fit a whistle. Made a drawstring material bag to put the gift into and had all the kids sign the bag ... just put something in side of the bag so that the marker does not go right through.

The team picture is also a good idea! Take one serious and one funny (pulling faces/sticking tongues out) photo with the coach doing it with the kids .. the kids will have fun doing that. Get a cheap frame stick the photos on and let the kids sign their name & number.

Good Luck!

Our teams also do 5 or 10 dollars a kid and get a gift card. Sometimes to a local bar/grille...or american express kind of thing. That was nice of you to become team mom....not always a fun responsibility!!

Why not take the team picture and have eack player autograph it either on the back, or on paper underneath. We did this for my younger brother's coach and he loved it.

Pictures of ths kids is a great idea. They sell mats that can be signed by all the kids. I also really like the restaurant gift card or movies idea. Getting out for a night is a great reward after a busy sports season.

As much as I love my "Coach" mug, if they already have received a few, then I could see how that may not be a good idea. A t-shirt or a ball signed by the kids sounds cute, but it will just end up in a closet.

What about a "themed" basket. Notepads, pens, coffee mugs, travel mugs, etc with a baseball theme on them...try the party stores and dollar stores.

Well, since baseball takes away a lot of home time from a family, how about putting together a Movie night basket. Blockbuster gift card, microwave popcorn, candy, etc

You may even be able to ask your local theater for an empty popcorn bucket to use as your basket.

I think you should ask each parent for like 4 or 5 dollars it depends what did u have in mind on getting the coach figure out the price and see what you would need from each parent. That is what my childrens teams always do at the end of each season and also ask the parents for some advice on what they think would bre good so that way it is a group effort.
GOOD LUCK

My husband coached pee wee football for a couple of years and he really appreciated a team picture (taken by yourself or another parent.) blown up and framed, each child then wrote their names and number on it (make sure they don't sign on the faces) This is a great memory as well a reasonably priced gift. You can also get a gift card from Wawa.

At that age, I'd suggest a t-shirt or baseball jersey and have all of the kids sign it with Crayola Fabric Markers.

Very meaningful, and cheap!
