Clothes Suggestion for Potrait

My suggestion would be to work with colors that suit his coloring best. If you are going to have a busy background, do not have him wear busy clothing. Have fun!

Both sound great!. I usually suggest to stay away from logos/charachters on clothing, try to keep it simple and classic. I really like the brown & Khaki combo myself :)

Whatever you like him in best will be fine. The photographer will have backgrounds to go with what you bring.

Take both and then take pictures in both just change the little one.

If you like both sets of clothes why not take both. Get some with one outfit and some with the other outfit. Or depending on the back drop you may like one outfit more then the other. These are your pictures. You should be able to do what you want.

What ever he's comfortable in; make sure he is not hungry or tired.

I used to do a lot of changes now my son is older and likes to pick out his own clothes; he is 2 1/2.

I think that you should go with the colors that look best on him. I don't think you have to take specific ones to the studio. Where are you getting his pictures taken? Another thing you can do is take both outfits to the studio and take pictures with both.. that way you can see when the pictures are taken, which one YOU like. Hope that helps.

Solid colors work best for portraits. As far as what colors your child should wear, that really depends on his natural coloring. Good Luck!

I always try to choose clothing (colors) that compliment each other when we do our family portrait. I prefer a white background or something neutral. Let the photographer make suggestions...they usually have a good eye to help you decide what background would compliment your outfits. You can't ever go wrong with a white background, though.

As for having pictures taken for ONE child, the sky is the limit. Choose whatever you like on your baby. I tend to stay away from outfits that have a design such as animals or words on the front as they can be distracting in the picture but really anything you love on your baby, go for it. 99 % of the backgrounds I choose are white. It compliments anything you choose and it really makes the baby "pop" in the picture.

My husband is a photographer, so we are constantly doing photo's of our 15 month old. I would stick to solid colored shirts that are strong in color. For example, a red, blue, orange shirt over a light blue or light yellow shirt.

try putting him in something that is timeless, this way the portrait will be a classic forever. the plaid shirt sounds a bit too busy and may take away from the sweetness of the picture. denim or khaki is good with a white or other natural color shirt.

Do both, then you pick the portrait that worked the best.

I have 3 kids so we always do solid colors, but if I'm getting their pictures by themselves, I just pic a really cut outfit. If the tops aren't solid, make sure the background is one color. While you only have 1 do the cutsie outfits YOU like cause once you have another they'll all be in a solid color. Depending on where you go, you may be able to take a 2nd outfit. call and ask and then you can maybe take both!

Well for my son I did the newborn, 3rd month, 6th month, 9th month and 1 year photos. What I tried to do was one simple outfit i.e. jeans or jean shorts with a white polo and bare foot, or khaki pants/shorts with a white polo or button for shirt and for the main photo's these are ultimately my favorite pics looking back they are so timeless and you really see him not just a cute outfit. Then whatever the closest holiday was I would also have another shirt or shorts to coordinate with the holidays colors. Then thirdly I would do one in the cute plaid prints or charter outfit. It really is up to you are you looking for something timeless or super colorful? Now I do have to agree (and I never thought about it until after) think about where you plan to display them. Now another really cute idea is wearing a black top and the back drop being Black, with the shot being a close up of your child’s say chest up it really shows off their face, and all the cute expressions they come up with.

Try a white shirt with jeans or khakis, it always looks clean and fresh.

Love this question because I love dressing my girls for pictures! THere's no right or wrong way to dress a child for a picture. I would just make sure the colors complement his skin tone, and then you can pick whatever you want. I always choose an outfit I absolutely love for a formal or professional portrait, because I know I will be looking at that outfit for a long time. And I usually like to pick something a little dressy but not stuffy. I did a blog recently on my blog, beautymommy.com, with all sorts of cute boy clothes - splurges and less expensive items. But I just say you should pick something you love, and it doesn't have to be new, unless you feel like shopping! : ))

Hello S., I used to work for a photographer and they always recommended people wear solid colors (but avoid a white shirt). That way the focus is on your cute baby instead of the clothes, unless of course the outfit was a special gift then all bets are off. Whatever you choose will be just fine.

Hello S., For my son's portraits (he is my first) I try bring a couple outfits and see which ones I like. When he was four months old I had two outfits and he also took a birthday suit one. Take both outfits and see which ones you like best. The fun part is just seeing your baby so which ever you choose will be great. Our kids always look super cute anyway!! Have fun.

Hi Sam. I say try them both on and see which outfit and colors look best on him. Also, see if photographer will allow an outfit change. When I had my son's photos done, the pictures I liked were in the casual outfit that I didn't expect to like as much. Good luck!

This may sound "lame", but since you asked....
I'd put him in a white shirt with the khaki pants! You can frame it with whatever you want, it won't clash no matter where you display it, and it makes for great photos!
My husband took my kids to be photographed as a gift for my 40th birthday, and the studio photographer suggested white button down shirts for both kids for the photo shoot. ALL the really nice professional ones (the kids on the beach, or in sepia, or black and white) have everyone wearing white and khaki. There is a reason. And the white actually makes their skin tones look nice.

I would put on him with what goes best with him and his skin color and eyes, you know what you think looks cutest on him. The portrait studio has lots of backgrounds and props that can make the picture look cuter, and focus on him. We just had our family portraits made a few weeks ago, and my dilemma was that I didn't have anything that everybody could match with, so the 2 boys wore blue and white, the 2 girls wore red and white and my husband and I wore gray and white, and they put a black background behind us, and it looked great!
My suggestion for you is to just put on him your favorite outfit, and it will come out nice.

I know photographers prefer solid color shirts as it allows the child and/or the background to stand out more...but for me I prefer the pictures to simply reflect my child at that moment in his life. So, while I have tried to use mostly solid color shirts, I've chosen shirts that were favorites or were things I thought looked really good on him.
Also, let the photographer capture candid shots. Those area always more important to me. The perfect portrait is nice, but to be able to look back and say "oh look..this is when he really loved playing with his feet" makes the picture more priceless.
I agree that you should just take both outfits with you and take some pictures in both. They likely will use a solid background if the shirt is patterned, but that can be good too. I find the patterned backgrounds to be too busy and really distract from the purpose of the picture...my son. :)
Best wishes...and depending on where you are going, don't forget to use COUPONS. Most portrait studios (Target, Sears, JCPenny's, Portrait People, etc) offer great deals with coupons that you get in the mail or from their websites.

go with the more colorfull. My grandson would be in either Atlata
Braves or FSU. My daughter in law gets better pictures herself then sends them to snapfish Those pictures you just have to be there when it happens or miss it.

Let his eyes and hair color be a guide to choose the best colors on him. Just make sure he is confortable in them and that the session is in the morning, when he is well rested and fed. If he is sleepy or hungry, he'll get cranky and unhappy about having to sit for photos. Good luck, they'll come out beautiful!

I alway have a hard time choosing an outfit too, but if you go to Portrait Innovations at St Johns Town Center they'll let you do an outfit change. That way you can use both and just decide which pictures you like best. Sometimes the outfit I think will look best doesn't photograph as well as the other one I took...lol.

I have a great professional photographer who I have been taking my 21 month old son to since he was 3 months old. He advises his clients on all the details of his photography including the best colors to wear. His background is normally white for children or outdoors. He usually advises against prints, red and yellow (I think some skin types can wear yellow). He suggests for boys: blues, jeans, and khaki colors which typically look good on every skin type. The reason is for the child's face and gestures to be the focal point and the clothes secondary. Just a few ideas of what I have used: solid navy polo romper, baby blue shortall (all in one short outfit), jeans overalls (with no under shirt and rolled at bottom...very cute), light teal overall, khaki pants, navy sailor outfit with white tipping....oh and no shoes for inside pics. This look is very sweet for small children.

Anyway, since you already have khaki pants and jeans maybe you can pair one of them with a solid color polo top.

Hi S.. Oh, portrait time is so cute! I know that when my daughter was younger, I asked the same question to the portrait studio, and they said to stick to solids. A print might be too busy. I followed that advice...but I am curious as to what other moms say. If it were me, I would probably keep either bottom and go with a white button down shirt..or polo. The pluses are that basic is classic..and will not look dated in the future, and a basic color will always match your decor. Why don't you call the studio and see what they suggest...or bring 2 choices, see which background you will choose, and then get advice from the photographer. Good luck!!
