Are there any other cloth diapering moms out there who have a good natural way to keep stains off cloth diapers? I have been using the dry pail method, which used to work as long as I used a stain remover, but our new house in the country has an interesting plumbing feature-all the laundry water goes out a pipe into the back field, so I am not using any chemicals in my washes. I find that the messier #2's have been leaving a distinctive mark, and it drives me crazy when I hang them out to dry to see my clean diapers still soiled. Thanks so much!
I used cloth diapers back 27 years ago and then again when my daughter was born 24 years ago. We use to soak them in the diaper pail in Borax. It never caused any kind of rash on either of my kids. Hope this helps.

I personally haven't tried this before, I actually used disposable diapers but, if I were to use cloth ones, I would definetly want something like this to use for a cleaning method, something that is safe for the baby and our earth.

I had the whitest cloth diapers ever, but I used Biz which is probably not environmentally sound.
On a more natural note, try hydrogen peroxide - it's safe enough as a mouthwash (diluted with 2 parts water and 1 part regular mouthwash for a touch of fresh) so it should be safe for the environment. I use it (straight) on the carpet when my puppy would get excited and tinkle, after the initial blot to remove excess. That's what I would try.
I've read "enzyme solutions" are good pre-soaks, but I'm not sure where you would get those....

My grandmother would hang the diapers out to dry and leave them overnight. She said something about the morning sun naturally bleaches the diapers. Personally I have never tired it but she says it works. Or there are good bleach alternatives at a natural health food store.
Have you tried sunning the diapers on a good sunny day? I was amazed at how something so simple could fade stains quickly.
there are several 'all natural' stain removers on the market, but they tend to be a tad bit more expensive but as i understand it, it's worth it...
I haven't had a chance to use my cloth diapers yet (just under 3 months from my due-date), but from what I've read, the best way to remove a stain is to put the diaper in the sun and let the sun bleach it out.
I've also read that pretreating the stain with a mixture of dawn dishwashing liquid and water works well.
jsut wondering if you have ever tried white vinegar ive heard it can get stains out and it also works as a fabric softener , ive also heard that baking soda works kinda like a bleach but its not as harmful and of course hang them in the sun to dry because the sun is a natural bleach
Vinegar in the wash helps and drying in the sun will also lighten stains. I also occasionally use Seventh Generation's non-chorline bleach- doesn't do much for stains but kills germs. I've had to give up spending so much time on the diapers and just accept that they are clean but a little stained. Besides, they are just going to get messy again!
