Cloth Diapering Moms Please Help!!

I love cloth diapering... During the day we use cotton prefolds with Bummis covers as well as Rumparooz pockets with bamboo inserts... Around the time my now 18 month old turned 1 she started getting these blister-like rashes caused by her nighttime diapers. We were using bamboo pre-folds at night and they had worked perfectly for about 6 months (no rash, no leaks, no problems). Once we started noticing the rash we started using a wool cover at night, and that helped a little but we still had the rash... So we switched to sposies at night, and the rash cleared. We recently started with cloth at night again about two weeks ago, and the rash reappeared so I have been putting fleece liners on her skin, and that worked!!

BUT...

I am at my wits end... I don't think we can CD at night anymore, the elastic in the Bummis gets wet and now she has a yeast rash on her thighs!! Is there anything else you can think of for her sensitive skin or are we at a loss and stuck in sposies at night?

We use bamboo, and fleece liners which have helped her crazy bumps on her butt :) but now shes developed this bright red yeast rash (or atleast thats what the pediatrician thinks) on her thighs that we have to rub anti-fungal cream on 4 times a day! The only thing that I can think of is waking her in the middle of the night to change her, which is not something I want to do!!

I appreciate your help!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

There have been several moms that have asked this... I use country save and add tea tree oil to the wash to kill stuff!! I also line dry, the problem with the yeast rash is not on her bottom, its on her thighs and thats whats confusing to me. I will try her pockets at night though, its just frustrating to stuff them so full!! Thanks ladies!! Trying some drybees fleece pockets cross your fingers!!

First, I agree with the mama on the California Baby diaper cream. Second, have you considered switching to Pocket diapers at night? They have a fleece lining to wick moisture away from the skin, plus you can double stuff. Most of the microfiber inserts absorb more than bamboo or cotton.

I swear by california baby diaper rash cream. it's a natural antifungal as well and cloth diaper safe. It's not cheap but i use it every change.

Others have mentioned this but it if you haven't stripped them, do. I scoured the internet to look for info about my specific diapers (the official websites often have instructions or approved detergent) and it worked out well for me.

Might clear it right up. If it doesn't then you know your diapers are as close to new as they can be :)

I also bought disposible liners (sounds crazy, or did to me) but can be a big help at night, esp. if you are using creams and ointments. Gerber and Kushies sell them I know, probably other brands out there too.

I went the route of disposibles at night when I started having this problem until I stripped and the combo of a break from cloth and cleaning the diapers of any built up stuff cleared things up for us.

I agree with Momof2grlz and MamaMay. It really sounds like you need to strip your diapers. What detergent have you been using? If it not one that is cloth diaper safe you should switch to avoid this in the future.

We use pockets at night also. Double stuffed usually with JoeyBunz.

Love cloth. I used (and still do) plain old Chinese DSQ Prefolds. The most elaborate I got was the "unbleached" prefold. I used, and still do, the nylon diaper covers. Never had any problems whatsoever. We did often use a protective barrier at night like Aquaphor or desinex, when the dipe was on for an extended time, like at nighttime. So between the extra absorbency of the dsq dipes, nylon dipe covers and the barrier creams, we didn't have any issues.

I'd go disposable at night--I had big leaking issues with my daughter at a certain age and even doubling up at night did not work. Its worth the extra expense and trash to not have your child with bad yeast rashes.

I am not totally familiar with all of the products you are using as I just use the standard prefold diapers with a plastic cover so bear with me. I did see that you use the wool covers and I have two children that have problems with wool and break out in terrible rashes. I also have one child that has a problem with elastic and break outs. My child who has problems with elastic also has sensitivity to some laundry detergents so I have to be careful there too. Basically what I have done is make sure the diapers I put on are not too tight, especially where the elastic is and I always have to be sure I use 100% cotton for the diapers.

Hope this helps.
