Hi Ladies! I have been trying to get pregnant for some time. My son is almost 3 years old and it took us over a year to conceive him. After temping for a few months, I went to my dr. She said that I was not ovulating and had me come back on Day 21 of my cycle. That test showed my progesterone levels were very low and called in Clomid to help.

Have any of you been on Clomid. I have read mixed things about Clomid. Did you have any side effects? Did you have twins? We want another baby so bad, but after reading all the bad stuff online about Clomid, I am having second thoughts. Any advice you could give me would be great! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I took my Clomid on days 5-9 and didnt have any side effects other than being tired. The time changed that week, so I think that could have added to my sleepy state! ;) I'm on CD 12 today. Hopefully I'll ovulate soon and have some good news for you ladies. Thanks so much for your wonderful advice!

I took Clomid for 3 months after trying for over a year to get pregnant. I have a healthy, smart 8 year old boy as a result. I didn't have any side effects, but was on a low dose of it. It worked great for me.

Due to PCOS, I was also on clomid. I did not get pregnant with clomid, and had to move to injectables. I now have a very healthy 15 month old boy! I didn't have any side effects from Clomid, except not getting pregnant.

Every woman is different with each drug, so discuss it with your doctor for sure. And, no matter which drug you choose to take to induce ovulation, make sure they monitor you with blood tests and ultrasounds! It is so irresponsible of the doctor's NOT to!

Clomid only raises your chance of multiples about 1-2%, so it is the lowest risk drug in the fertility category.

I haven't been on clomid. I had issues with low hormones, also. I was put on Metformin. It helped me with my ovulation. I don't know what your situation is but I've heard a lot of things from people I know that have done Clomid and it seems like so much to just tell someone to start taking it. I'd ask her what your other options are, and even go for a second opinion. Could you possibly have PCOS or endometriosis. Some of these things thrive on hormones and if you are injecting a hormeone into your body, you could make the situation worse.

I am not a know it all but very well "educated" on some of this because of the problems I had for years. It took finding the right doctor and getting on the right medication for me. I had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago, but am fortunate to have my son who is 13 months old.

I just really try to steer women clear of doing a lot of things that aren't necessary just because a doctor said to do it. I hope this doesn't offend, but I'll say a prayer for you.

Clomid worked for me...although you need to be monitored appropriately with blood tests and ultrasounds. Is your doctor a fertility specialist? They tell you there is a low risk of multiples, something you must seriously weigh...I now have 6 week old twin girls and wouldn't trade them for anything :)

Hi J.,
I took Clomid with my third child and was able to get pregnant within two months. I do not remember any side effects. I don't think Clomid is a bad thing, I just think it helps up your progesterone level if needed, which is what I needed at the time. For my husband and me, we just said, 'Okay God, you have given us two other healthy, beautiful babies, if it is your will, then we want this third pregnancy, if not, we will know it was meant for us to have two, and be happy.' That is what fortunately worked for us. so a huge part of it is finding a part within yourself to be happy regardless of the outcome. Another thing to consider is trying to not think about it so much and sit back and relax and see what happens. Get involved or interested in a project or something that takes your mental concentration and maybe that will help too. At least to take your mind off of why this or why that, etc. Sometimes our bodies do better when they are in a non-stress state. I hope this has helped some. Best Wishes to you and your family. =)

Hey J.!

Clomid, clomid, clomid. I tried it for 10 rounds due to PCOS before going on to the injections and I DO NOT suggest it to anyone. The reason I say that is because most of the item the "doctors" that give you the Clomid do not monitor you the way you should be monitored. Meaning you should have blood draws and ultrasounds to see what your follicles are doing, if anything.

Some women respond great to Clomid, where others do not. I personally didn't and felt horrible the entire 10 months I took it. I was on the 100 mg dose and had all kinds of nice side effects...mainly I felt like I was loosing my mind because of the effect on the hormonal side. My hubby was EXTREMELY happy once I got off it. :)

As with any fertility drug you run the risk of having multiples. The drugs stimulate your ovaries to produce more follicles (eggs), so therefore you run the risk of having multiples.

I know several ladies that have used Clomid and had twins. As well as knowing several ladies that had twins without using fertility drugs of any kind. So that kind of blows the theory of having twins just on fertility drugs out the window.

From my experience of going thru the infertility stuff, I had odds stacked against me before I even thought of having children. With the PCOS which is another word for lack of ovulation, it took us almost 8 years to conceive our triplets, which resulted in our twins birth. But I think we are an exception to that rule, since I believe it was more a God thing than anything.

If you want to talk to me privately about your situation, please feel free to reply to me.

If you are having second thoughts, then maybe you should reconsider. Also, what kind of doctor are you seeing, and what is her or her education in this area. How long have you been trying for your second child? How old are you? That is another factor in the "infertility" game. Not to say that you are infertile, but once you step into the fertility drug areana it becomes a roll of the dice. Money (if your insurance doesn't cover things) and patience wise.

Look forward to hearing more about you.

Take care,
God Bless,
J. D

J. I did use clomind with my 2nd time. I have PCOS I did not ovulat on my own. When I was getting ready to use the clomind the likly hood that you would have twins or high where very high that you would not. I was one of the people that did get pregnant with triplets. I lost of my daughter at 23 1/2 weeks. I did have my son and daughter at 27 1/2 weeks. They are now 6 1/2 years old. I am glad that I did do the clomind. I was not planning on have triplets or twins. So if you are going to use the clomind you could have twins. The only side effect that I had was having triplets. I was only cloming for 2 months before I became pregnant with my children. If I rremember right I was only on 50mg. I had to go into my doctor the first of the month then he would gave the clomind then I would go back about two week late of a u/s to see if I have any eggs. Then he would tell me to do the shot. I feel that the clomid is a good thing. I would do it lot over to get my children. I do of a lot of women who has used the clomid and only had one baby. I just need a little bit of help.

I conceived both of my sweet boys on Clomid (one at a time and 3 years apart). I didn't have any side effect issues other than maybe a little weight gain (not a lot) and it was completely worth it.

You might read Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon. She gives good information about normal cycles and what causes some irregularities and infertility. She gives suggestions for non-medical ways to fix the problem, such as getting to the same weight you were when you conceived the first time, and eating iodized salt to taste. I was blessed to conceive easily, but I've heard a lot of people who were helped by this book.

You could try fish oil (omega 3's), progesterone cream and a heavy duty multi vitamin. Also you must eat properly. Try this for 6 months first. Fish oil needs to be 3-5,000 mg/day.

Hi, hopefully my info. will help. We had no problems getting pregnant with our son (now 3), but really struggled with #2. After a miscarriage last May, nothing seemed to work. My OB found that I had almost 0 progesterone. I don't know if it caused the problem, or resulted from the miscarriage. The OB was a little doubtful, I think, but he never actually told me. He wanted me to try a very low dose of clomid, especially since twins really run in my family and I did not want twins particularly. I don't like to take medicine, but agreed to a very low dose (I think it was 25 mg). Well, we got pregnant immediately, despite the fact that the ovulation test strips never told me I ovulated. My OB was elated and we were over the moon. I don't think I recall any side effects from the clomid at all, probably due to the low dose. I'm now 21 weeks along and my 3 year-old is so excited to be a big brother. 3-4 years is a good spread because he understands more and can help a little. Whatever you decide, good luck. I'll be praying for you!

I do not ovulate and the doctor put me on Clomid after trying other RXs for 2 years. With the 2nd dose of Clomid, it work but I miscarried 2 weeks later. A month later,I took the 3rd dose of Clomid and now have a 10-month baby boy.

I have talked to several other women who also took Clomid and they had to same thing happen to them. They miscarried and then the next month was pregent again.

J.,

I took clomid to get pregnant with my first. Beware--it works! LOL! I first got pregnant, and had a miscarriage. It took almost another 11 months to conceive again. My hormones were totally out of control while taking Clomid. I would cry for hours on end for no reason at all! But it was so totally worth it, and I would totally do it again. And just FYI---Clomid remains in your system for up to a year after taking. I was pregnant with #2, when my first was only 10 months. What a surprise! Not planning that at all! But what another blessing! Good luck!

Hi J.. I used Clomid 9 years ago to conceive my oldest daughter. I also was not ovulating on a regular basis. The only side effect I experienced was cramping...really bad cramping. I didn't realize how hard the cramps would be, so I actually became afraid and went to the emergency room. Well, when I told them I had taken Clomid they explained how intense the cramping can be for different women. So we missed that opportunity to conceive. But the very next month, when the cramps started, we knew what to do. I asked my doctor about the chance of having twins, especially with them being on both sides of our family. The chance was a little higher with the history of twins but we only had one. If I had to do it all over again, I would. I have three children but only had to use the Clomid once. Whatever kept me from ovulating every month, corrected itself. God Bless!

Hello J.-why not use a natural progesterone cream? I am an Arbonne Consultant and we have a wonderful cream that works and you wouldn't have the risk from taking prescriptions. So that is a thought and you can contact me if you would like to try it. Low progestrone cause miscarriages and a number of other problems. Thanks P.

J.,

I personally never had to resort to using Clomid though I did have a prescription in hand, ready to fill when I discovered I was pregnant for the 2nd time. (Both that one and my first ended with miscarriages so that became the issue.) My sister-in-law however does have ovulation problems and can only get pregnant by taking the drug. Of course she and my brother were concerned about the possibility of twins but the way they figured, it was better to run the risk of concieving twins than to be childless. The biggest obstacle for them was knowing they'd have to add obstetrics back into his insurance, an additional $200 a month or some equally ridiculous amount. Currently they have two daughters, ages 4 and 9 months. Their last child has been a money-drain with constant health problems so I don't know if they will ever be able to afford to have another one.

Hello. I have an awesome suggestion. Arbonne makes an all natural hormone balancing cream that is all progesterone made from soy. It is a cream that is already measured. So you just have to pump the top and you put it on your inner arm, inner thighs or belly. It will add the necessary progesterone that your body needs. If you would like more info about this I would be glad to help you out. Thanks. Lori ###-###-####

My husband and I were also having trouble getting pregnant. My doctor put me on the Clomid and within 2 months, I was pregnant! Like you, my husband's only concern was if we would have twins or just one. Anyway, God blessed us with a healthy 8# 9 oz. baby boy! So my opinion is that Clomid does work. I don't really remember any side effects, as that baby boy is now turning 8 next Thursday! :)

Good luck and I hope that God will send you another little gift soon!

I would read this: http://www.infertilityworkshop.com/articles/gettingstarte...

It basically forces your ovaries to produce an egg. Any use longer than six months can be potentially harmful.

This site is a wonderful place to just do some reading, too.
