So What Happened?

I have had this since we left the hospital, which has been about 7 months ago! I thought nursing would do the trick, nope. My breast are so large, she only feeds from one at a time, and she always empties. It still doesnt hurt, but it worries me, having been there so long.

Nursing is the best way to get rid of one. Frequent nursing is crucial to completely empty the breast, for comfort and to reduce inflammation.

You can also massage the area frequently and firmly, starting at the top of the breast and working your way toward the nipple. Applying warm compresses before nursing can help empty the breast.

Also you can try to vary your nursing position. For example, if you use the cradle hold, try the football hold or nurse lying down. Also, you can position the baby at your breast with her chin pointed toward the clogged spot. This directs suction at the plugged duct and seems to promote healing.

Some women also report success using herbal remedies such as echinacea, lecithin, and vitamin C. Taking ibuprofen may help relieve pain and inflammation,if it starts, but ask your doctor first.

You also should try to avoid going long stretched between feedings, or pumping. This will make things flow more freely.

The usual will help ex; feedings, massage your breast while you are in a warm shower, compresses, and this will sound weird but a cabbage leaf on your breast will help. I hope this helps. Good luck.

use a hot water bottle to relax and unclog if our nursing nurse the baby more on that side and that will unclog the duct faster.

I always used a warm wash cloth on the breast that was clogged while the baby was feeding on the other side, felt good and cleared it up. Interesting idea with the cabbage leaves, have to try that sometime with the next one.

You might want to call your doctor, especially if it has been there for that long. My sister was just telling me she had to have one drained a few months ago (when her daughter was 6 months old) and again this month because it wouldn't go away and just to double check that there wasn't anything else going on.

Good luck!

I got those darned things with every kid. Hot showers, warm, wet compresses. Also this time around I found out that taking extra vitamin C helps alot!! Also make sure you nurse the affected side first every time. I know it hurts, but it just takes time to loosen up and break free. Good Luck.
