Hi MOMS,
my almost 18 month old has figured how to climb out of his crib. he has a convertible crib so we turnedit around andhe couldn't get out for about 4days and now has mastered this way too. i was wondering what other moms did when this has happened with their kids. wehave a gate up at his door so in case he climbs out he can't fall down stairs.i was thinking of trying a crib tent that goes over the top pf crib so he can'tclimb out. has anyone tried this? and if so has it worked?i don't think he is ready to be transitioned yet,but anysuggestions would be helpful. thanks

What can I do next?

if he can climb out, he's ready for a real bed. get him a bed and let him pick out the sheets and comforter for it to make it "his"..

Crib tent all the way - my friends have used these and swear by them. They pop up on Craigslist from time to time. Good luck!

Hi Kelly,

My son was climbing out at 13 months and I thought that was to early to put him in a bed, but we did and he did fine. We bought a cheap toddler bed and put a gate at his door, it took a few nights of him getting out of bed and screaming at the door, but after that everything went pretty smoothly. Hope that helps.

My son was 18 months and my daughter was 16 months. We never used a tent - for mee too scary. If you're not ready to purchase a bed, take the rail off the crib so he can get in and out safely. Keep that gate on the door. We were lucky to have a full sized twin bed to put our kids in. We placed a foot locker at the foot which gave them a firm, large area to climb in and out of. Also, get a side rail. It's a huge leap of faith but inevitable. Getting big boy sheets is also a great idea! Good luck!

get the crib tent, it's worth it. my son was not quite ready for the move to the big boy bed, and i was afraid of him hurting himself on his way out and down. it's such a great tool until he's ready for the transition. we have the crib tent II which has more stabilizing features and i KNOW he's staying put and safe. have had it for a few months already, and it's PERFECT.

Kelly:

I had to use the crib tent for my daughter when she was climbing out of the crib. I was afraid she would fall while trying to climb out so I wanted to prevent it. I must say the first time I bought the crib tent and put it together I did not like it and ended up returning it. It felt so enclosed and I could not hold my daughter's hand or even touch her through the crib slats while she was trying to fall asleep. However, after multiple attempts by my daughter to climb out, I decided that her safety was most important. So I went back to the store and bought the crib tent again. She used the crib tent from her crib to her toddler bed. When we switched her to a toddler bed, she kept getting out of it to go to our room. So I put the crib tent into her firetruck toddler bed and it worked. So don't let the look of a crib tent deter you. Remember that safety is of primary concern. Good luck.

I just recently purchased a crib tent to stop my 2 year old daughter from climbing out. When she was 18 months she climbed out when her aunt forgot to put side up and fractured 2 bones in her wrist.Thank god they healed well, but we would not take any chances with her climbing over the top.Have to say it is a great job and really gives me piece of mind when i put her to bed knowing she is safe and sound.Well worth the money.
