My family is thinking of joining the YMCA on Highland in Clearwater. For those of you that are members, I was wondering if you could tell me what all the start up fees/registration fees, etc... are incurred and then what you pay monthly? Also, do they ever run any "specials" to encourage new members to join (ie: waived fees)? And are the classes a separate fee?

Also, are you happy there? My DH likes to have as much info as possible before going into a new venture! Thanks for any info you can share!!!

K. =)

Hi K.,
My husband and I joined when our little one was only 6 months old. We joined the Palm Harbor Branch, but check this link, I beleive you can use your membership at any of the YMCA's of the Suncoast. If you cannot afford the membership they have an "open doors policy", no one gets turned away.
We enjoy it because of the excercise room and our little girl loves the kids zone! The pool is very refreshing in the summer too!

Have fun,

Hey K.,

We really like that Y. We moved here from Wisconsin and they aren't as large as the one there and they charge for more things that we got as members there but overall we like it and just had to adjust to that being a Florida thing. My husband and I both volunteer coach and again in Wisconsin if you volunteered they reduced fees (fam membership here is $71 with monthly draft from bank was $67 in Wisconsin) vicki with the sports department is really good. My oldest child is a volunteer ref and teen leader, my youngest is in karate, swimming, flag football and basketball, he also starts guitar lessons next month. So they offer alot, there are some good classes for adults also but again they charge for more than our old Y did. But they do have scholarships for kids and there is a program if you need assistance I just don't know the name of it. But I definitely recommend this Y. Good Luck and hopefully I will see u there.

Sheila

Hey K....My hubby works for the county and they waived our registration fee. I think they do that for Pinellas School teachers too. Maybe there are others that they offer this to?

My sister works for the Clearwater Y and they offer so many wonderful programs for children and adults. It's also great they have the kid zone, so you can drop your children off while you work out.

If you swing by the Y, they have a packet they can give you with all the answers to your questions. Mention that you would like the Open Doors paperwork as well, so they can evaluate whether you can get discounts or fees waived.
