Cleaning Wood Furniture

Hi!

I have a stained wood head and foot board for a full size bed that's been in storage for many many years. It's dirty and covered with cob webs. I have to set up a bed for some relatives that are coming into town this weekend and would like to clean this head and foot board but I'm not sure how to go about that. I know I can't use water or a regular cleanser because that will ruin it but a simple dusting will not do the job. Should I use Murphy's wood soap? I've seen advertisements for that on the television before. Anyone have any suggestions? I was hoping to sand it down and repaint it before they came but with less than a week left, I'm realistic that there's no way I'll get that done in time.

Thanks very much for any advice you can offer. :-)

What can I do next?

The Murphy's Oil Soap sounds good, I have not used it before. I use Guardsman Furniture Polish and Furniture Cleaner. I purchase them at furniture stores or whereever I see them. They have sunscreen protection and are very good for your furniture.

Good luck!

I would use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean it and then follow with dusting polish to put moisture back into it, something like Old English or Duster Plus...something like that.

There are a few moms on here that sell Melaluca products - contact them for something called Rustic Touch! I LOVE that stuff! It works SOOOO good! Not only on wood furniture but also on stainless steel and as a replacement for armoral so you can use it on leather and on your dash etc. And it's safe to have aroung the house/kids/pets. It's inexpensive too.

I love Murphy's Oil Soap to clean wood... it does a great job. It takes sticky fingerprints and mystery stains out of my coffee table, and does wonders for my kitchen cabinets.

Murphy's is great. I use it on paneling, my piano, cabinetry, etc. Then if the wood is really, really dry, I wipe it down with Liquid Gold. However, if you're needing the bed ready for the weekend be sure to wipe it one more time with a dry rag so the oily residue is soaked up quicker.

I agree with the other posters: Murphy's Oil Soap works great... just make sure to not over-do it and wipe it off well and, like Melody said, use something to enrich the wood afterwards. Good Luck!
