Cleaning Carpet on Stairs

I am not the greatest when it comes to super cleaning. We mostly have hardwood or tile floors, but we have carpeted rugs. Haven't had them cleaned, ever. I don't remember my family ever doing this wherever we lived...

Can someone recommend an easy, inexpensive stair carpet cleaning method for regular AND deep cleaning - cleaner, device, whatever? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I usually use the tube sucker upper (the detachable vacuum hose) on the vacuum, I have 2 cats and my mom has a dog so I have the pet hair vacuum. You can probably use a dust buster type portable device, but I've never owned one that was worth not throwing in the trash (they all sucked, figuratively because they actually didn't suck anything at all haha). It might be a pain because the vacuum hose only goes so far so i do lift it up steps every now and then to get everything, but looking at clean steps makes it worth it :)

Hope this answered your question. Wasn't particularly sure if you meant getting all the dirt off the stairs or deep cleaning (shampooing the carpet on the stairs)

I use the smallest shop vac & do my stairs with the bristle attachment, for stains good old soap & water with a brush,or the Bissel cleaner it is small & compact has a great attachement & cleans really well instead of using an upright steam cleaner/shmpooer for carpets. It says to use only Bissell but there where times I ran out & used dish soap worked great

We were dealing with dirty carpeted stairs too. Instead of replacing the carpet we are getting new stairs that will be hardwood. The company will take out our old stairs and railing and put in new ones in about 4 hours. The railing actually takes the longest too install but in total they will be done in just 1 1/2 days. The stairs are coming March 7 th so hopefully it will go smoothly. Not a cheap option however.
