What is the best way to clean faux wood horizontal blinds.
I don't want to have to take them down.
So is there another way that is best?
An easy way?

I've been trying to do it w/a washcloth but it's time consuming & I feel like a wet washcloth smears the dust.
I have to clean each blind at least 3 times.
If I use a duster, it just seems to float the dust around in the air & still not get the blinds that clean.
Again, I don't want to take them down.

How do you all do it?

What can I do next?

i have a tool that looks like a huge fork, with a removable terry cloth cleaning "pad" - it cleans three blinds at a time - both sides...

I bought it at Bed, Bath & Beyond...it was around $5 and love it...

for my plastic ones? I take them down and put them in a tub of sudsy water.

I take them down and fill the bathtub with cleaner. Then take a scrub brush to them. Rinse with shower and drip dry.

Sorry...I know you don't want to take them down, but truly, it's such a hassle to try to clean them any other way. Good luck!

I have used the vac attachment and it works ok.

The best way I have cleaned them is very time consuming but worth it in the long run...

Clorox wet wipes and wipe EACH piece until clean. If you are opposed to CLorox, use baby wipes.

I always start by using the upholstry brush attachment with my vaccuum (sp). That puts the dust away instead of into the air. And it works amazingly well. Go across each slat, then go up/down on the strings area and the sides. Then I open them and if anything is left, I get it with a swiffer cloth... usually, not much is left after vac'ing them.

If they are in a kitchen, you may need to take them down and wash them after you try this.

I cleaned my cousin's wood blinds with dust cloths impregnated with a cleaner. They came in a package similar to baby wipes. You can also use Spray and Dust on a cloth. It causes the dust to cling to the cloth. I'm not sure that's the name of the spray. It's stocked with furniture polishes at the grocery store.

After having blinds of various sorts, vertical, micro, mini, faux wood, wood, vinyl, aluminum, I decided never again. We use curtains, sheers, and roman blinds. I remove and launder them once a year and call it done.

Best method I found to clean blinds was to take them down and soak them in the tub. Sorry don't have a better solution for you.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

I wipe mine down with a slightly damp dust rag. It's an old cotton cloth diaper and I just spritz a little water on it with the spray bottle. We get lots of gritty dust here in Central Oregon and it wipes clean and sticks to the cloth on the first swipe.
