My advice is to spend the money. If you don't clean the cover, it is ruined. The cleaner can't "ruin" it anymore and maybe, maybe, can make it better.
Well...my sweet little puppy peed on my duvet cover. It is a silky-ish material and the label says "dry cleaning recommended". I called the cleaners to ask if they would be able to get the odor out and they said 'they try their best'. She said if it can be laundered, that would be my best bet. So I'm not sure what to do...I hate to try and wash it and it get ruined because my whole bedroom is based on this color! But, I also hate to waste 17 bucks to have it cleaned and that not take care of the issue. It has gotten water spots before that seem to dry out ok...what do y'all think?
Thanks!
I went ahead and washed it since my washing machine does have a silk setting (duvet is made out of silk and polyester). Then I hung it to dry. It turned out fine. I don't know where the stain was though so can't say for sure if the odor is gone!

There is a product that I use (I do rescue of mostly senior, special needs dogs but do have cats too)...OdoBan....the only place I know to buy it is Sam's but it works, really works....I would have the cover cleaned and then spray a bit with this if there is still any odor....I don't blame them for not guaranteeing it as a small pee spot to one may be gallons for months to another.........my bet is they can get it out.....best of luck to you and your sweet puppy...
I don't know how much a Christmas tree skirt would be like a Duvet cover, but maybe it will apply. My best friend bought me a gorgeous Christmas tree skirt one year at the clearance sales after Christmas. It had satin trim and some other sheer kind of material, filled with something that made it a little puffy, quilted on one side and had a sparkly glittery scroll design on it as well. Of course my cat decided he wanted to pee on it so I figured it was ruined. I didn't think I would have anything to lose by trying to wash it since I was going to have to throw it away anyway so I washed it in cold, with the gentle cycle, on the highest water setting, by itself, with a liquid detergent, and it came out just fine. None of the sparkly stuff went away and the material was not snagged, bunched or messed up in any way. I ended up having to wash it a few times before I could get the pee smell out, but it worked and we still have that very pretty tree skirt today. Again, I don't know about your duvet or the type of material it is, but I was sure washing the tree skirt would ruin it and it turned out just fine.
Wasting 17 bucks at the dry cleaners to find out it won't get out the pee smell is a hard lesson to learn, but so would be washing it and ruining it so it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other if you ask me. I personally would take it to the dry cleaners first and if that didn't get the smell out, then I would try washing it myself because at that point, you'd have nothing to lose...well, except for the 17 bucks of course. Good luck! :-)
I had the same problem a few months back, although with a cat. I took mine to Bibbentucker's to have cleaned. They're pretty pricey (mine was about $40) and it took a couple of times (they covered the 2nd time), but the smell's now gone. We touched it up with a bit of Febreze and it's good as new. Good luck!
Try some BacOut in an area that doesn't show. If it doesn't circle, it's the greatest for pet stains and every other thing. You can get it at the "green" store in Lakewood or Bree's Baby in Richardson.
My cat peed on my dupioni silk duvet last year. I took it to the dry cleaners and it is as god as new now. It smells great.
