Class Gift for Teacher

I'm the room mom for my son's kindergarten class. We need to buy a gift for the teacher and the room aid. We have about 80 to spend on each. I don't really want to just give a gift certificate because that seems so impersonal. Does anyone have any great ideas?

What can I do next?

Take a photo of the whole class, do 2 versions all cute and well behaved and the other all crazy.. Give them both copies with the year and all of the kids names..

Then give the teacher a gift card.. It is impersonal in a way, but will be greatly appreciated.. I was PTA President at 2 different schools and teachers do not need any more "things". A Visa Gift card is a real treat.

I second the "teachers do not need more things". I try to make it something consumable - gift cards, flowers, food, etc. then add in something personal like photos, a thank you letter for everything they've done. My child is in special ed and I can tell you those people don't get thanked nearly enough!

I got a wood rocking chair last year (you can pick up an aderonac (sp) style at Lowes or HomeDepot, usually. I found one at Peir One for about $100. We spray painted it white with matt finish paint and got colorful sharpie markers for the kids to sign the chair. We had them leave room for the next classes to sign too, and gave the teacher the markers in a gift bag (she opend it, and looked perplexed at the pens) and someone came in the door with her chair. If you will have a small amount of money left, and you could get each one a plant to take with them, but the chair stays in the room for ever, which is a very sentimental and fun thing for them to have.

As a teacher who has received many gifts, we really do appreciate those gift cards!! Something made by the kids or a picture of the class is also sweet, so maybe you can give a $50 gift card along with a nice class picture or something that all of the kids can make together. Letters from students and parents are also wonderful to receive.

I have to agree with some of the previous posts. Being a teacher we appreciate anything we get from students, but a gift card is always welcome. It may seem impersonal, but we truly appreciate it. The Disney Family Fun Magazine had some cute ideas on how to present gift cards from the class. Here is the link

Wow! I think I'd fall over dead if my class spent $80 on me! LOL As a classroom assistant in a first grade class (last year K), I can say for sure that I would have loved a massage by the end of the year! :)

PS: How wonderful that your son's class is so fortunate to be able to honor the teachers like this!

I agree with Laurie. A Visa or American Express gift card will do more than a gift that you might think is more "personal". And it will give them the opportunity to get something they "want" or "need" and it will reminded them that came from the children they teach spen time with everyday.
One thing! I would give more to the teacher than the to the assistant. Unless both have the same amount of work and responsibility.

Good luck!

Teachers love gift cards. They usually have enough teacher souvenirs.

What about personalized jewelry or a key ring? Etsy has a lot of options -- you could get it stamped with something about the class (year, thanks for being our teacher, etc.). I have ordered from http://www.lisaleonardonline.com/ and been very happy.

I have a friend who is a teacher and I always ask her what to get my kid's teacher's. She continually says that gift cards are the best thing she gets because she can buy things for the classroom. Perhaps you can go to the principal and ask if there is anything the teacher has been requesting for the classroom.

I know my friend is always looking for new books, and other teaching tools for her kids.

Also, this year she told me to get some of those candles at Bath and Body Works...they smell amazing and I want keep all the candles I bought as gifts!!! Perhaps you could put together a small "side" gift like that to go along with a gift card...my friend usually likes those Visa cards because she has a choice as to where she can use it.

There is always the spa. Pedicures and manicures are always welcome! It would be a nice relaxing end to the school year and a great start to the summer. A simple manicure is usually only $15 or $20 and a basic pedicure is usually $35 or $40 which would leave enough left over to add the tip on as well.

$80 is a lot and can go a long way for both. I do like the picture suggestions as well. I always like to get pictures though =)

Good luck!

Several teachers have said they don't need more things. Perhaps a picture of the class like mentioned before and then give to a charity that helps kids in their names? Most schools are in a budget crunch so items for the class, Kleenex, paper, markers, books (they have asked for), etc. Several of our classes have given money to the school library in the teacher's names.

I think taking pics of the kids is a great idea and maybe making a collage......you could also buy a BIG card and have all the kids "sign" it......(hand prints maybe) Maybe the kids could also donate a book to the class room......one from each of them......(teacher and aid) with the class name and date.......be sure to add class and date to everything........

Teachers always need markers, crayons and such for their classrooms, but I think something of the kids is a great idea, the rocking chair is good too......don't know if I would paint it white, but a nice beige would be good.....
Good Luck.
