So my friend brought over these homemade cookies once...turns out they are from a mix! But they are soooo delicious....buttery and sugary and they just melt in your mouth. Anywho, I don't want to buy the mix...I'd rather make them from scratch. I've googled it but can only find links to buy the mix Anyone think they have a recipe for these? Thanks!!!! My pregnant stomach and my husband will thank you!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the help ladies. The poster EP gave a link that did have the correct cookie recipe. They just weren't as good as the mix! These were too sandy :( I guess I will just have to buy the mix.

I don't think I have ever had these cookies, but I did find this recipe on About.com http://southernfood.about.com/od/cookierecipes/r/bl30409w...

* 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine
* 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
* 2 eggs, separated
* 1 tablespoon milk
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
* 15 unblanched almonds, split
* 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation:
Cream butter and 1 cup sugar. Add egg yolks, milk and flavoring and beat until light. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix well. Chill dough for at least 3 hours.

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough very thin and cut with 3-inch star or other cookie cutter shape. Put on greased cookie sheets; put a split almond on each cookie. Brush with unbeaten egg whites; sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar and the cinnamon.
Bake sand tarts in 375° oven for about 8 minutes. Makes 30 sand tart cookies.

I hope this will cure your pregnant cravings!

Your talking about old-fashioned dutch (or german) sand cookies. What make them cinnamon is just the addition of cinnamon to the batter. You can flavor them all sorts of ways, with lemon, anise, etc. If you look up Sand Cookies on recipe sites, you're sure to come up with quite a few. I'd give you my grandmother's ancient recipe for them but it's in storage currently. Just search for one that gets good reviews and, if it doesn't include cinnamon, just add some to taste! Happy baking! :)

Sorry, I'm not sure if these are them but its worth a shot! The recipe doesn't have cinnamon but obviously you can add it.
