so i smoked for 10 yrs before i got pregnant and quit cold turkey when i found out i was 4 weeks preg. now that my son is 14 months im starting to want to smoke again. mostly at night when he goes to bed since hes not as "time consuming" as he was the first yr i have sometime at night when he goes to bed to unwind and the first thing i want is a smoke. my BF smokes but not in the house obviously. hes refusing to give me a cig. im afraid if i have one at night it will just lead to smoking full time again. and i dont want to. ( i would feel like a bad mom letting my son see me smoke)
so my real question i think here is what do yas do at night to unwind and relax with just ur time. and i dont wan to start drinking especially on work nights lol ill never get up.

What can I do next?

Read, go for a walk, record Dr. Oz and watch it at night, make a list of things to do the next day, or listen to a relaxation tape.

read, take a bath, watch a tv show or series. scrapbook, knit. Kudos to your boyfriend for not helping you smoke again and to you for quitting.

I'm on my laptop on the porch smoking RIGHT NOW... but, being the pot calling the kettle black, do your best not to smoke. I stopped through all 3 pregnancies and promised myself I wouldn't start again.... and did, all 3 times. I'm too selfish to give it up YET... but I will quit for real and keep it that way, just not today. My advice to you though is get everyone who smokes to do it far, FAR away from you... that was my biggest threat. All my closest friends and my fiance smoke. Having it in your face sucks, and it sucks bigtime. I hate blaming my vice on other people, but I know in my heart I wouldn't have started again if it wasn't so accessable to me. Drinking and smoking are synonymous to me... if I'm drinking, I'm smoking, and nice versa. Quit while you're ahead and stop both until you can handle A drink without a cigarette ;)

You could meditate for a half hour or so. You could enjoy a wonderful piece of chocolate and a magazine. You could sit outside and listen to the evening sounds. You could do a jigsaw puzzle. You could check out mamapedia! You could have a lovely cup of tea. You could knit or crochet to keep your hands occupied.
I drink wine in the evening and I know that's not what you want to do. So I hope those ideas help! Have a concrete plan in place--remember, if you fail to plan, to plan to fail. Good luck.

I went through this not once but twice. The first time a co-worker made a joke i was pregnant when I didn't feel well, then the confirmed it. The co-worker got a carton thrown at his head, he gave me the cash for the carton. I started smoking again when she was around a year, at work or at night when she was in bed. Then came the dreadful day when she imitated me, I quit smoking at home or any where when she would/might possibly be able to see me. Along came number two and I quit altogether, I have smoked 3 different times since then and everytime i felt like i was gonna be sick, they were all stress related cigs. I have been a non-smoker for close to 3 years now. My recommenation don't start. Use this time for yourself or for you and your BF.

Read. That is my favorite thing to do at night with my free time, very relaxing to me.

~I suggest NOT trying for just 1 smoke at night...it WONT work, believe me, I have tried! I have always wanted to be one of those "occasional smokers", the kind that can have a pack hidden in the house and only have a smoke when they get really stressed out. I have 2 friends who can do this with no problems...but I can NOT!

I stopped smoking with all three pregnancies. I start back up when #1 was 11 months, and #2 was like 2 months old and wish I hadn't. I too smoked to relax after #2 my husband would refuse me smokes as well but I am an adult so I just went and bought my own..my first one was stress related at work...soo stupid of me. My baby is 13.5 months and I have no desire to smoke anymore. I also said if I ever had another baby I would quit and I did. I love not smelling like an ashtray. I just watch some TV. go on the computer or read a book to relax at the end of the night.

Congrats on quitting. I hope you won't start again. I've had asthma since childhood, and I'm pretty sure it's at least partly because I was raised in a home that always had at least 2 adult smokers. Of course, in those days people could still be in denial about the detrimental effects of smoking, because tobacco companies were doing their best to deny the evidence.

Remember that tobacco resins are absorbed through your skin and cling to your hair and clothing. Your child will eventually notice the smell. I have heard of, but never met, people who could smoke an occasional cigarette. All my friends who tried that were smoking full time within a few weeks. And hating themselves for it.

Finding a mindful exercise that you can gift yourself with in the evenings may work well for you. A tea ceremony, reading (or writing) poetry, or an evening walk are lovely for some people. Maybe trade footrubs with your BF (my husband and I have done this for years.) Others need something more active, like a yoga workout, or lots of laughter – listening to comedians or reading funny books. A hobby that keeps your fingers busy might be just your style, and leave your ears free to listen to books on tape. Start with your strongest interests, and explore from there.

I wish you ongoing success and years of good breath.

Read, take a hot bath, occasional glass of wine, cup of hot tea or ice cold glass of coconut water with pineapple (yum!!!). Or I watch the Food Network. :) Do NOT start smoking again - kudos to your BF for not giving you a cigarette. Think about the answer your son would give you if he could about whether you should smoke or not.

Please do not start smoking. It's not worth the risk and it kind of undoes all the progress you've made thus far. I don't think you need to drink either. I don't do either. This is what a do to unwind...I sit on the couch and watch some tv with my hubby. hehe. if I need to do more than that, I take a warm bath.
