Chronic Sinus Congestion

My son is almost 11 months old and he has suffered from chronic sinus congestion since birth. We finally received a referral to the ENT, but of course have to wait 3 more weeks before the appointment. I was wondering if any of you all experienced the same symptoms with your children and what the ENT ended up doing for your child in order to help the problem.

He has suffered from several sinus infections. Nasonex and Veramist do not work. Singular does not make a difference for him. Zertec makes his heart race and keeps him up all night. We have been down a long road. I am optomistic that there is a simple solution out there.

A saline solution (can be made at home) with salt and water. Use q tip, dip in solution and swab inside nose. Also, keep room child uses free from extra stuffed items.

He's probably having a reaction to the formula or your breast milk. Most sinus problems are fungal. Are you living in a moldy house? spraying a solution of sea salt and hydrogen peroxide and water will help...also a liquid probiotic is a good idea too. was he vaccinated? That usually crashes the immune system and decreases their ability to handle the pathogens in food and in the air. Stop using chemicals on his little bottle or his immune system will never heal. Do not give him any more immunizations until his condition has been healed.

Have you had him tested for food allergies? It could be a milk allergy but you definitely want to test for this before eliminating diary from his diet as soy should really be a last resort because it carries its own risks. Do you have pets? Could be another allergy. I would try to lay of the various meds (some can actually make things worse) and look for another explanation or maybe an alternative solution like acupuncture or a chiropractor that specializes in working with infants and children. I know it sounds strange but I know people who have had great success with these therapies but they should of course be used in conjunction with western medicine and not to the exclusion of traditional therapies unless you have exhausted all those. Good luck.

I would definately try eliminating all milk products (as milk intolerance can cause the immune response). Having an IGG allergy test completed may prove beneifcial in showing other foods he may be responding to. J

Hi M.,

The medicines made our daughter jittery and very agitated, and increased the chance that she contracted nose bleeds, a sore throat and a persistent cough. Our herbal doctor did suggested that we curb our milk products, due to the excess mucus production. However, we replaced it with first soy milk then rice milk. She loves it, as do we! We also concluded that our allergy-like symptoms were made worse by the carpets which seemed to retain dirt and dust despite cleaning them every 3 months. The hardwood floors are our best friend! So, to sum it up we made a few food changes -- which include gluten-free waffles, pancakes, and cakes (very yummy) for everyone, removed the carpets and most importantly we avoid outdoor allergens by using the air conditioner. Oh yes, please always replace your home filters every 6 months. Happy Mothering!

If he is drinking cow's milk formula, I'd get him off of it. Cow's milk really isn't 'good for the body', as well as ear infections, sinus infections, sore throats, etc. These are things that sometimes happens to some kids on cow's milk. If you are nursing, then you will need to eliminate all of this yourself..not even a tablespoon. Good luck!

I use humidifiers for my children. Running them all the time in their bedrooms help with sinus congestion and help them stay asleep. Usually it makes their noses run so that they are not congested. Good luck & God Bless You!
