Hello there we were married around Christmas as well. Dec 22nd. I did red and green also. We had Christmas trees with white lights and nothing else on them in the back ground and it was really pretty. Also lots of candelight and we played a Vince Gill Christmas CD for my bridal party to walk down to Good luck!

I would recommend going to www.theknot.com This is a wedding planning sight and it is very helpful. Gives great ideas for everything. Also has a budget page to set uo if you want. This helped me very much in planning my wedding. You create your own account with a user id and password. I hope this helps.

Congrats and Best of Luck!!!

yay for weddings! I can't remember what it's called, but look into the big old mansion that is on 39th St. It starts with an "L" (I think) and ends in House or Mansion but I can't remember the name, Lowell, or something like that. It's not cheap, but it's pretty. Union station was a great idea. It is fairly inexpensive (considering) but they get you with the catering. They only allow off of their list, so you have the potential to get screwed there. Both of those places allow ceremony and reception in one...I would recommend that if you can b/c it's easier and probably cheaper in the long run. I don't know if you're getting married this Christmas or next, but if it's next then you should totally buy after christmas stuff like ribbons, flowers, centerpieces, etc. because you can get it way cheap. If it's this Christmas, I would look into Hobby Lobby and Michaels b/c they're getting in Christmas stuff right now and putting it on sale...also stores like Tuesday Morning and the like have good stuff too. My last suggestion is looking into a medium range hotel like Holiday Inn b/c they have great ballrooms and will work with you to set up a deal that you want. Plus, you and your guests can stay right there for the night! Good luck and Have fun!!!! Wedding planning is so so so so fun, but remember to be nice to your fiance, that's kinda hard sometimes! ;)

i would go down to the plaza and check it out. you just HAVE to use the horse and buggy, like someone said. take a walk down there (while it's warm!) and see what you can find out. i bet lots of people have done weddings down there during the holidays. good luck and congrats!

CONGRATS!! I got married in November at the Pilgrim Chapel a few years ago - it's not on the Plaza, it's near Crown Center in Hyde Park - you can look it up online. It was so pretty, but it's for a small wedding and it would solve your church situation. I had my reception in a room at Union Station, but if you did something there, you would take advantage of their incredible Christmas decorations.
You could also look into some of the hotels that sit over on Ward Parkway - The Rapheal for instance.
If you go to the knot.com, they will have a link or a portion of the website that you can specify Kansas City and it will link you to countless options for reception locations, with cost estimates and contact information.
I would have poinsettas everywhere if were me, with gold ribbons. Also, I think using those red-berry-type things in your floral arrangements would be pretty and festive. You could give small stockings with candy as a favor or if you have more to spend or it's a small wedding, ornaments so people will always have that to remember your day. Your food could also be Christmas-themed - cranberries, cookies, that kind of stuff. And definitely lights, I would have white Christmas lights everywhere. And, finally, you could put mistletoe around your reception, that might be cute and romantic.
Good luck and have fun!!

Depending on the size of your ceremony, I would suggest checking out The Pilgrim Chapel - www.pilgrimchapel.org. It is very intimate - gorgeous old stone - there are some great pictures on the website.
For a reception site check out Club 1000 - it's above Tanners on Broadway - great space with huge windows...white lights all throughout the ceiling.
If $ isn't an issue, I would also suggest Berg Event Space - it is very unique - you can have the ceremony & reception there and would have endless decorating options. I would guess it wouldn't be pre-decorated though...
Since you want to embrace the Xmas theme - for centerpieces you could buy terra cotta pots...spray paint them if you like - and put tiny pine trees in foam..cover with moss or fake snow...like little topiaries on the tables. This would be inexpensive, and something you could do ahead of time. Also, since not many flowers are in season in the winter, you could use fruit to decorate - pomegranate & oranges would look beautiful together...cranberries will be in season...with some twigs &/or berries...lots of greenery. Fill glass hurricanes with it...cover table tops...whatever
I could ramble on for days - once you have a site and theme or colors, if you want any other suggestions, let me know. Also, my sister did an internship with Pamper'd Palate/Affordable Catering this summer and they are an amazing company - great food, great service and run by a wonderful lady with the righ attitude towards servicing brides!!! Anyway, best of luck, and more importantly CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

A great place to hold your reception that meets your critera of overlooking the plaza and having a huge fireplace would be the Intercontinental. Speak with Sarah there as great to work with and may have some ideas as well regarding local churches and can offer decor ideas.

If you are looking for other unique reception ideas I highly recommend Celebration Entertainment. They offer some very creatively reception ideas like a love story and special audio recordings and a host of other ideas that I've not seen at other weddings. They are listed in the PWG book but in case you dont have one their number is ###-###-#### and ask for Joe.

Good Luck and Congratulations!

Sounds like you may want to invest in a wedding consultant and I happen to know one so if you're interested you can just email me. She'd be able to help you plan all the details.

Also, my husband and I got married at The Country Club Christian Church on Ward Parkway in Kansas City, MO. The church is breathtaking! You should check it out. You have so many options and it'll all depend on your budget. My only other advice is to start figuring out what you want now because places book up quickly and if you're talking THIS coming Christmas then you don't really have much time. Of course the old cliche is true...time flys by when you're having fun!

Best Wishes and Congratulations!

You might try the Crown Center hotel - I know their waterfall area is beutifully decorated, but not sure how they would rent the space.
