Did you maybe put a part in upside down? I can't imagine you would make that mistake, but I have done sillier things.
I just tried to put up my Christmas Tree and the parts don't fit. It is the same tree I used last year. I can't figure out what happened. The only thing I can figure is we had an unusually hot summer and the tree was in the garage. Anyway it has three parts and the middle part pole is too large now to go into the bottom section. Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do? It's a 12 foot tree and buying another one before Christmas is not an option. HELP.

I live in Victoira Tx and we store our tree in the attic some years and others in the garage. ours gets hot too but we never had that issue. is your pole upside down? do you still have instructions or a manufactuers number? if anything get ysomeone to drill holes in a large wooden dowle rod and stick the limbs in that. or if you have little ones you can do a felt tree! http://www.ohdeedoh.com/ohdeedoh/crafting/felt-christmas-...
Maybe you have the pole the wrong side up.
I decorate peoples homes for the holidays and this has never happened to us. I think you are either not holding the pole straight enough or the pole needs to be turned in the other direction.
Or you are missing a piece or the grip at the bottom is too tight.
I would not carve or whittle anything until you are completely positive you hae put it together correctly.. It will never be the same once you alter it.
Metal won't expand under relatively low levels of summer temperatures. If it is plastic, I would expect the tree posts to become brittle but not expanded under the heat.
First I would make sure the tree was being put together correctly. The tree should get narrower as the height goes up since that will make the tree more stable. So the middle pole should be narrower than the lower section but thicker than the top section. The posts should telescope one into the other is another way to describe the tree.
If it is being put together correctly, then you can do a couple of things. If the posts are plastic, then you could try carving the posts down but that will weaken the structure of the tree. I would suggest you buy some PVC collars which you can fit both post sections into. The collar should fit as snuggly as possible. You can then drill screws through the collar into the posts to secure the sections. You'll probably have to paint the collars since they will be visible.
I don't think duct tape will be strong enough without some other material to support the sections. 12 feet is a tall tree and it will be top heavy relative to the strength of the duct tape. If you want to proceed with duct tape, you'll need to tape long sections of dowel rod or wood strips which bridge the post sections. Basically brace the sections with wood, securing with duct tape. Again you'll probably need to paint or use green duct tape to hide it against the tree.
I hope this makes sense. Good luck.
Try flipping it the other direction. Seriously I spent 2 hours screaming and throwing the damn thing around last year before I realized I had it upside down. I felt like a total fool.
Call your local neighborhood handyman. Find a couple of other little things for him to do to make the trip worth his while. Sometimes a problem just needs a different perspective.
first double check that you're trying to put the pieces in the right order; can't tell you how many times I've tried to put the middle piece on the bottom. Next, perhaps at your local hardware store you can purchase some sort of pipe fitting to use as an adapter between the two pieces that no longer fit together. Or ... maybe duct tape??? Never happened to me; nor have I heard about it - but good luck -
Can you use Duct tape to hold it in place? check your parts again to make sure it's not turned wrong or upside down. yes you had very hot weather this year and that could be a reason. If not, time to get another one. Luckily Christmas decorations are on sale so you should be able to get another one without breaking the bank :)
If the pole is truly too large for the bottom section, can you "widdle" down the plastic to make it fit? Once you get it widdled down to fit, take some strong duct tape and tape it together.
Take the two pieces to a local hardware store and ask for help. There will more than likely be someone there who can help you. :)
Best of luck!!!!
