Make tickets for her..

Examples

Good for a free foot rub
1 hr of mommy alone time
good for a night off of cooking ( you can cook the meal)
Good for no cleaning -dishes for a day/meal

Things to give her a break and you can do for her. It does not have to be a lot or elaborate.

Good Book set from the library
Janet Evanovich- One for the Money, it is a series up to Notorious Nineteen.

Moms love gifts that are from the heart, so something that they take the time to make. A bookmark is a wonderful idea.

Since she likes to read, does she go to the library frequently? You could make her a tote bag for her books.

A love the ornaments my girls have made for me over the years.

My daughter is kniting scrafs for her grandparents. I hope she decides to knit one for me too.

My most favorite things from my kids is homemade stuff. Like when they make me cards, or write a poem, or spend time and effort on drawing/painting a really cool picture I can hang up somewhere.

Write her a poem. In your own handwriting, in your own words about what you love about her and cherish, and then put it in a frame.
With the date on it, and your name.
Things like this can't be bought in a store, and is very sentimental and precious.

I like the gift card idea so your Mom can pick her own book, but to make it personal write her a nice poem or draw her a special picture.
You are a sweetheart!

Since you ARE GOING TO MAKE A BOOKMARK, I do have a suggestion. Cut a bookmark from an old pair of your blue jeans. You can leave it frayed. Then get some fabric paint and paint something pretty. That bookmark will last forever!

Obedience, respect and doing homework without asking. ;-) Make your mom lunch and do all of her chores plus yours for a whole month.

It's really sweet that you want to buy her something. But you know what I'll bet she'd love more than anything? Get one of those craft frames from JoAnn's and decorate it. Take a really good picture of you and your mom together and put it into that frame. She'll love it. If you have any siblings, get a picture of you and your siblings all together (a new one, one that she's never seem before) and put that into another decorated frame.

I take it your mom likes to read! Me too!
I would be thrilled with any Jodi Piccoult or Kristin Hannah novel.
Or I would love a B&N or Amazon gift card!
You're sweet...good luck!

My favorite gifts are the ones that come from the heart. Something unique and made just for me :-) Those were my mom's favorites too. She still has many gifts my sister and I made for her...even the ones that are...erm...pretty homely.

If your mom loves reading, what about making her a few bookmarks along with the book you get her? Or a book cover? You can find directions for both those things, by going to google.com, and typing in "homemade bookmark" or "homemade book cover". Here are some ideas:

Good luck!

But Christina, how are you going to keep your mom from seeing this? I assume you want the gift to be a surprise?

I like the novel idea, just make sure it's a good novel. :)

And as a mom who misses her daughter being 11 (my daughter is now 20), my other suggestion is to give her a coupon for some kind of really fun activity that just you and she can do together, after Christmas is over. Ice Skating? Lunch? Movie? Hike? A mother and daughter outing.

Have a Merry Christmas!

What a great daughter you are. Howabout a gift card for a manicure or pedicure. I think anything you get her, she will be thrilled with. Moms are like that. Even if you made her a card with coupons. One for doing dishes or laundry any chore that she does not enjoy doing. It could be for a month, a week, whatever you want.

Christina you are so sweet. I advise you to ask someone like your grandma or dad or one of Mom's friends to take you shopping and help pick out a book for your Mom. Make sure you get a gift receipt and put that receipt in the book, if Mom wants to she can exchange the book.

One of the best things my kids ever gave me was Isotoner gloves.
I am a glove person, I admit, but the Isotoners make your hands feel like they are in heaven.

I don't really have any novels to recommend, although I love reading. I prefer things historically based. I'm not sure what your mom's tastes are.

My kids and I buy a lot of things on e-bay. That goes for books, clothes, jewelry. Not all things have to be bid on. That's my go-to place for relatives that are far away and I can have things shipped directly to them.

Just a thought. Of course you will need your mom's permission for something like that.

You could also visit a local bead store and get help with making her a necklace or bracelet. You might need Grandma or someone to give you a ride there, but they can help you make something really special. It's not that expensive. Trust me. You can also find gems to decorate a photo frame with a picture of you in it. Again, something you'd need some help with unless your mom has favorite photos around.

You can buy a clear plate or glasses and do an etching design. Craft supply stores should have everything you need for that.

Just get creative. I think your mom would love that most of all. I know I always did.
But....I have to say.......the Isotoner gloves were like Heaven on my fingers and I love them to this day.

Best wishes to you, sweetie.
I'm sure you will think of something your mom will treasure.

I love anything by Jodi Picoult and Kristen Hannah as well! Kristen Hannah's "Winter Garden" was my all time favorite.

I also second all the people saying you should make something - even just a sweet card. For my birthday in October my 11 year old daughter made me a card with all these pop-up things. It was so creative and I know it probably took her an hour to make it. I loved it and put it in a special box where I keep the best things they've made me. I also have a 9 year old daughter, and honestly, ANYTHING they get me or make for me is great. The fact that they even think to do something for me is a wonderful thing :)

Hey-there are great ideas here. One more idea, when you give her the gift, you could make her an acrostic poem instead of a card-you know the kind I mean, where you write your mom's name with each letter under the other, and then write describing words (if she's Linda, you could start with L-Lovely, I-I love you, you get the idea). Maybe combine a gift you buy, like a book, with more personal stuff, like a calendar you print out from the internet that you decorate with ideas for each month. It could include things you might do for her(shovel the snow in January, for instance) and things you would love to do with her (go to the beach in July). Good luck!! :o)
