Its coming up on Christmas time already (shopping, planning, gathering)...I have a really great idea for a "Santa" gift for my 2 year old son (its a Firehouse, with all the firemen, trucks, furniture etc...its basically a doll house, but we cant call it that *wink, wink*). I am lost for ideas for my daughter. She seems to have plenty of big (in size toys), she as a whole list on small items that she wants, and I am somewhat anti-electronics. Anyone have any thoughts? She really wants a new baby, but those are a dine a dozen and she has 100s...is there a dolly out there that is maybe a little higher end that a 4 1/2 (she will be 5 right after Christmas) would love??? I realize I dont have to be equal, dollar for dollar with each kid, but I want to at least be in the same range???

So What Happened?

I LOVE the American Doll idea. Even though she would be just as happy with a $10.00 baby from Walmart, I think that getting her an American Bitty Baby would be great, she will understand when she is bigger that it is special, like cabbage patch was in my day! I went online and ordered the American Doll Catalog. She can look through it and if there is a doll that she loves and wants we will get it, if not then I guess this year Santa will save a lot of money!!! :) Thank you all!
Update: I ordered the doll, starter kit, and matching PJs. She is going to be thrilled!!! THanks again!

What about a piece of furniture for her room? This year I am making (hand painting and personalizing) my daughter her very own table and chair set. Maybe a vanity, bookshelf or desk?

I hear the 'American Girl' dolls are all the rage!

Simple: Bitty Baby from American Girls.

Also, if a little one asks Santa for something that's what he/she wants. Be very careful deviating from this path. I have 3. One year my youngest then 4 wanted nothing more than a fish! His gift cost us $8, including a tank. His brother's and sister's gifts were closer to $75 each. Guess who was over the moon! My youngest.

Listen to your children's hearts' desire. That is a sure way to enjoy the spirit of Christmas.

Does she have a doll house? I love them up until I was in sixth grade (11-12 years). I used to make doll furniture out of matchboxes and the like. There are very cool ones from Plan Toys which are all wood. Perhaps something like a fort-making kit would be cool for her (and the both of them). I saw a really cool one, (around $65) that included something like CV pipes with connectors. If she has a lot of dolls, how about something for her dolls...like outfits? Just some ideas to play with.

I really have to jump in here and echo the American Girl suggestions. There are so many dolls out there with negative conotations (bratz, barbie, just to name a few) and it's really nice to have a doll on the market that actually is a POSITIVE role model for girls.

American Girl dolls (and the books and other items) are something your daughter will grow with for many years to come. There's even a book for older girls called The Care and Keeping of You (or something like that) that American Girls wrote for girls reaching puberty, so the options are endless for many years. I really admire and respect the values instilled in the American Girls books, so I say, go for it! I really encourage looking into not just the dolls, but the books too! Have Fun!

I second the suggestion of Bitty Baby by American Girl. Their dolls are special, and definitely not dime-a-dozen. My daughter, now age 19, loved hers. We still have Bitty Baby, as well as the American Girl dolls which she received when she was older. She's saving them for when she has children.
