My daughter goes to a in-home babysitter. She watches her for 6 hours, 3 days a week. I have been driving myself crazy trying to figure out what to get her for christmas. I just don't know what's an appropiate gift. Should i give money/gift card and for how much or should I just get her a gift and what kind of gift. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Money. Definitely a tip, as much as you can afford is always the right gift for anyone who does this kind of work for you. I would give an extra day's pay, minimum, if you can afford it. If you cannot afford that much, give less, but I think a tip is always appropriate.

I've always done gift cards to the grocery store or hair salon they go to.

When my daughter went to an in-home daycare, I bought her candles and then a smaller gift for the helpers. This year, both my children's teachers at their daycare are getting movie theater gift cards as they are younger and I think would appreciate this!

i actually have an inhome daycare and gifts that i have received in the past have been spa treatments, cash, gift cards to penny's, kohls, bath and body, restaurants. just make sure to get a beautiful card that tells her how much you appreciate her, that by far is the best gift ever. good luck!

We have decided on a gift card to a local cafe for our sitter. She is a college student who sits with our son just six hours a week but we felt that we should still give her something to say "thanks!". I think we'll also do the card with a photo - that sounds like a nice keepsake as our little one will go off to full-time nursery school in January and this sitter will just be a now-and-again helper.

Still toying with what to do for the day care center workers...there are several and I'm not going to break the bank giving them each a gift card but we still want to do something. I think cookie tins with homemade treats may be the way to go with that one. Finding the time is another story though. ;-p

I too have an inhome daycare, it doesn't have to be expensive, just thoughtful. A gift card for a book store or a restaurant would be nice. Add a card, maybe your child's picture and a nice note that tells her how much you appreaciate what she does for your daughter.

I'm thinking a weeks' pay amount would be a very nice Christmas bonus! And maybe give it to her a week before Christmas?

My kids have been going to an in home care giver since they were born. A lot of the time we travel for the holidays so the babysitter does not have to have them, but I usually pay for week anyway since she would normally have them. I usually get her something that is kid related and that they can do together. For instance last year we got those cupcake holders that when put together become a butterfly. The kids have enjoyed using them with her throughout the year. I've also given her a picture frame with the kids pictures in it. I think it's more the thought that counts.

My son has been going to an in-home sitter since I went back to work part-time (3-days a week). Every year, I basically give her a gift certificate for about one-week's pay (a few hundred dollars). I've done a few different things, one was a spa certificate b/c she enjoys going to the spa and then I've given just an American express so she can use however she wishes. I also give her little daughter a christmas ornament from my son as just a little token. Anything you decide I'm sure is approproiate, but if you know what she's interested in it makes it easier.

Going through same thing right now. Woman who babysits our son is a good friend and also has a boy just a few weeks older than our son, so it's a built in babysitter and play date. I am going to get the kid a gift certificate to a Carter's Clearance clothing store and for the mom I plan on getting her a gift certificate for a local restaurant.
