Hey,
I'm sure there has been other questions similar.. but I am looking for some suggestions for a Christmas day meal / food to have around for Christmas day.. We are going to have the big celebration on Christmas Eve and then for Christmas Day it will just be me, my husband and our two girls. Just a real relaxed day, spending some quiet time together. I would like to make something that is maybe a little different than just any day food but yet still simple. Like I said it's just the 4 of us and we would have cooked a bunch for the big family celebration the day before. So it's really just something simple, comforting, but yet a little different. Maybe something that can just kinda sit out for awhile and people can go and take it as they feel the urge.. Any suggestions out there??

I used to make a pan of cinnamon rolls in the morning.. made the house warm and smell good. If you have leftovers from Christmas Eve just do something to them to make it work for sandwiches, and make a relish tray with carrots, celery, cheeses, crackers and dip. to each his own on Christmas. Maybe have a pizza in the freezer and do a pizza?

Not sure what you're having for Christmas Eve, but ham and buns and potato salad it always a hit here. You can add a tossed green salad or hash browned or cheesy potatoes...all re-heat well and don't have to be served piping hot. Merry Christmas!

We usually keep Christmas dinner very simple as I don't want anyone to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I put out a tray of appetizers including veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, some nuts, some fruit, and shrimp. For dinner its a roast beef, baked potatoes, steamed green beans and a salad.

If your looking for something to just keep out... pulled pork with some rolls (keep the pork in slow cooker). Cook a ham ahead of time and slice it all up.

Chile & cornbread or chicken noodle soup, or stew, or a sandwich platter & salads from the store.

crock pot ham. Just dont leave it cooking ALL day or it will get grainy.
Allrecipies.com has some good entree ideas and crock pot ham recipes.
We used to do ham when we were first married.

I like to make a fabulous (make ahead) rich egg/ham/cheese cassarole for 'brunch' with cinnamon rolls and fruit..
And then it became our tradition to barbque tri tip on Christmas day. It was just us and the kids. We used to live in Ca, so that was no problem being outside for a bit. Now we live in snow country, but we are still planning on having our tri tip teriaki. My hubby and kids go absolutely goo-goo over it. Email me with your personal email and i will send a recipe for the cassarole and the meat.

I think we'll be doing lasagna for Christmas day. We'll be having turkey & most likely ham on Christmas eve, and I'll probably just throw a pan of lasagna together while I'm cooking for that. This way I won't have anything I need to clean up after on Christmas day.

Cheese fondue, with all the dippers? If you have an actual fondue pot you can leave it out as long as you want, just put the cover back on and stir occassionaly.
Mmmmm or chocolate fondue for dessert. =)
That was our Christmas dinner growing up.

You could always do something in the slow cooker if you have one. A big hit at my house is CocaCola brisket. You can cook it all day oven or slow cooker.
So easy... brisket (not corned beef) coke to cover it and a packet of french onion soup mix. Cook for at least 4 hours up to 8 but the longer the better. When you are ready to eat we always have it with mashed potatoes and green beans. Most importantly drain the liquid from the meat and put it in a pan and reduce it to about 2 cups then add a little corn starch mixed with water to thicken the sauce. Some crisp onions are always good on top. Yu can make your own or use frenches.
I know it sounds weird. It is like the best pot roast you have ever eaten. This is a special dinner for us... mainly because we never ever have coke at our house. YUM
