Hi Mamas,

I am curious as to how much I should give my nanny for a Christmas bonus. She has been with us for 9 months. She watches my 21 month old daughter. Initially she was just with us intermittently for babysitting but we have increased her hours significantly over the past 2 months, averaging about 25 hours per week. I want to give her money rather than a gift but don't want to short change her. She will not be working as many hours over the next 2 weeks with us because my husband is off work for the holidays.

Please offer me your suggestions.

Happy Holidays,

V.

We used to pay our babysitter who watched our child for about 30 to 40 hours a week, a weeks pay and also paid for all holidays. Not to mention, we gave her a gift for just about every other holiday. We also paid her for sick days she may have taken...

V.,

Generally one weeks pay is good but if you love her, 2 weeks pay is a really great.

I would say give her the equivalent of 1 or 2 wks pay. If you can afford a nanny, you can probably afford it! After all, your child is your most precious possession.... right? If she is good, reward her! happy holidays.

Christmas is now passed, but I just wanted to say you might consider her financial situation when you consider bonuses and other gifts...not everyone advertises their personal problems, but if you have an idea she really NEEDS the money, help her out, or she might end up looking for a job that pays higher wages or has more hours, in this economy.
(I love my part time job, and I've had it for a long time, but if I found something that would better serve my family's financial needs right now, I would change.)
