How about the Little House on the Prairie dvds? I loved them at that age, and my 13 y/o niece still watches it.
I finally gave up on trying to control the content my daughter watches on TV and have disconnected it. I'm going to stock up on some age appropriate, wholesome DVD's that preferably teach values, especially Christian. (Great thing is she will watch them over and over, so at least I'll hopefully get my monies worth!)
I'm looking for some great titles or series and would even love if someone stepped forward with some DVD's to sell.
Unfortunately because she see's other programming such as iCarly and Hannah Montana at her fathers, I know she like the "girly girl" story-lines.
I've already purchased...
*Hermie & Friends (several of them)
*VeggieTales (just got one, I'm thinking these may be too young for her)
Any ideas or offer to sell DVD's you no longer use would be so appreciated!
Thank you all for such great ideas! I didn't think about the old stuff from "my day". As for the idea about guiding her to make good choices...yes, I've absolutely been doing that and she knows better. I know I won't be able to control what she sees elsewhere and I already know she makes comments to others about whether she's "allowed" so watch such programming (iCarly or Hannah Montana for instance.) Still see flips through the channels and it seems there are endless programs with what I deem age inappropriate content ... even just the attitudes. At her age (it started about age 2 or 3!) she's a SPONGE. I finally got smart. Yeah, took me awhile. Live and learn. I thought The Family Channel or even Disney would be safe. NOT SO. And quite honestly, I can't believe I'm talking like this. Priorities and values sure change as we get older. ;o)
Thank you all again so much for the great ideas! Now to shop!

Anyone remember the tv show The Waltons? Very wholesome family entertainment if I remember correctly - maybe you can find them on DVD?
I third Little House! Gosh, I loved that. Is Anne of Green Gables to old? Not sure.
Just about the Veggie Tales....my son is 8 and still loves them. I think they are pretty clever.
Anne of Green Gables series
Hmmm, second grade, right?
How 'bout the Cosby show? Full House?
When she goes to her friends houses.... and they watch TV.... how will that.... turn out or what will she watch????
What I do with my daughter, since she was younger, is I taught her about how to discern behavior... and what is not appropriate.... so that no matter what she is exposed to.... she CAN and DOES.... at-will... can say, what is appropriate or not... for her... and to watch. So she KNOWS what shows are icky... and what are fine.
I do that with my son too, who is only 4 years old.
Me and Hubby just teach our kids... how to analyze shows/ads... so they become 'educated' on what is in the media...
all the best,

Adventures In Odessey...not sure I spelled it right. It is done by Focus on the Family by James Dobson. It is awesome. I used to be a dj for a christian radio station and LOVED to listen to these radio kid's shows. They came out with animated videos as well. Awesome work. There are a few episodes that are potentially scarey but they have warnings for those. Very Christian based...each has a moral and the characters are quite believeable. Enjoy them with her!
Veggie Tales are the best!! We all sing the songs - still.
And Jana Alyra, a christian musician in SoCA has a couple of great DVD's with amazing music. Google her.
I love the Hermie movies. We have quite a few.
What about the American Girl movies. I know they arent Christian based but have a great story line.
The" Family Feature Films" they have a bunch of wholesome films you can find them at http://www.familytv.com/ . Have a good day!
Looks like you got some great responses! Just an idea if she likes to play video games...check out www.leftbehindgames.com. These are christian video games. I haven't used these yet but plan on ordering some for my boys for Christmas.
cedarmont kids
These may be too young for her.
My boys are 6 and 2 and my oldest still loves to plop in a cedarmont DVD and dance and sing.
I second the little house on the prairie. There is usually a good message behind them.
Try Featur Films For Families.
I have a DVD/VHS player so I buy old VHS tapes at half-price books and garage sales with old shows like Lassie, Flipper, Heidi. Not only does my daughter love them but the rest of us enjoy the nostalgia. Don't go too early last century tho because they are smoking, drinking and portraying negative stereotypes. For example, the Shirley Temple movies disappointed me. But there's plenty of other choices. fyi, my daughter still enjoys veggie tales at 7.
Actually I do NOT recommend Full House! I got it from the library because I remembered loving it as a kid. They use God's name in vain CONSTANTLY in that show!
Perhaps 7th Heaven??? (May be a little old for her right now though.....?)
Little House on the Prairie has great values and story lines!
Go to Christianbook.com and see what they have. Free shipping going on now. I've ordered items from them and have been happy so far!
Get some different ones from the library to see what you guys all like!
