Choroid Plexus Cysts

I just went in today for an anatomy ultrasound at 18 weeks and was told my son has 2 choroid plexus cysts (CPCs) on his brain. It's my understanding that this is a soft marker for Trisomy 18. Everything else appeared fine but I am being refered for a Level 2 ultrasound. I also understand that these usually disapear on their own. My question is-has anyone else experienced this? What was your outcome? I am only 24 and not at risk for abnormalities but needless to say I am terrified.

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
When I was 4 month along with my third baby they found a cpc on her brain as well. I was so scared but it did end up disappearing on its own. My cousin also experienced the same thing with her pregnancy and her baby was perfectly healthy as well. Her doctor also told her that when you have pregnancies so close together that sometimes happens. I will keep you in my prayers.

My daughter had one show up on her ultrasound and it dissolved by about 25 weeks. I was very worried, but everything was perfectly fine. I was told they pretty ,much always disappear.

J., my son had one CPC on his brain and he had to go back for another ultrasound. Like you, I was terrified, but everything turned out fine. The cyst was gone and I now have a happy, healthy 8 month old boy. I know this is not always the outcome, but it was my experience. Best of luck to you and your son.

Hi J.,
I don't have any experience with this problem however I definitely feel for you. My daughter had a calcium deposit on her heart (soft marker for downs). She is now a happy healthy 4 month old girl. Like you I was terrified. We went back for another ultrasound later and it was dissolved. My heart goes out to you and your new son, and I hope for the best.
