If you are considering goats milk, how about breast milk from a milk bank? Might be expensive, I dont' know, but if you are desperate it might be worth a try. He's one I just found: http://www.nationalmilkbank.org/
Has anyone heard of this before? If so, would you do it? If you are doing it - does it seem to help? Its seems so strange to me to put my child on goats milk...never even heard of such a thing (not htat I have ever gone researching such stuff before). Not sure what to do about this?!?
Right now dd is on Enfamil lipil AR - that stuff is okay I guess. its way too clumpy and now when she spits up its all chunky - like she ate cottage cheese or something! Ick!!! So I don't know what to do. Im at my wits end here. We have tried so many formulas before this one - even nutramagen and similac.
She is also on prevacid for reflux - though we started going to the chiropractor in hopes of getting off the prevacid! First appt went great - the dr was outstanding with her and us. Just not sure about the whole goats milk thing...yikes!
Thanks in advance

I would not put any infant that young on anything other than breastmilk or formula. Goats milk was great for my sister when she was older, but no way was it appropriate for a tiny infant. I would try a different formula.
HUGE advocate for goat's milk here!!!
Due to difficulties breastfeeding (my body just couldn't keep up with their demand) I was forced to find an alternative. My father in law is a biomedical nutritionist and very into the organic lifestyle. He was the one who turned me on to goat's milk rather than going the formula route. Goats milk is very similiar in its chemical composition to breast milk, which makes it an easy transition. My oldest was on goat's milk by 3 months and my youngest was on goat's milk by 6 months. I am pregnant with #3 and intend to use goat's milk again if I can not breastfeed. I truly believe my kids are healthier because of it. So many of my friends that have formula fed babies are always at the doctor's office with colds, flu, ear infections, allergies, reflux, etc. My girls only go to the doctor for well checks. They are NEVER sick. I attribute it all to the natural goats milk. My mother in law was able to get me fresh goats milk at a local farm...not treated with any anitbiotics, chemicals, etc. I also found it in powdered form at Whole Foods & Target. Great for travelling. Travels the same as powdered formula...just mix with water and you are ready to go.
On a side note, I would suggest staying away from soy completely. Soy is SO difficult to digest, even for adults, but especially for little ones. Why put a strain on her digestive system when you don't have to?
Bottom line is I would suggest trying the goats milk. I have had only good experiences with it. If you would like any more information, please send me a message. I could even put you in contact with my father in law who could provide some great resources and suggestions for supplements (maybe if your daughter has allergies and digestive sensitivities?).
Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.
Goat's milk is super yummy! It is not at all like cow's milk in its composition. It is the animal's milk that is closest in composition to human breast milk. And much closer to human breast milk than formula. It does not have the protein that cow's milk has which causes reflux issues. TWO-THIRDS of the world's population feed their infants goats milk from a very young age, and feed their infants exclusively goats milk if they cannot breast feed.
I think once you do the research, you will see that it is us here in the United States who are a little crazy for cow's milk.
We get our goat's milk from Homestead Farms in Keller - www.homestead-farms.net
Good luck!
Ive heard of this! And the family that used it on their infant said their daughter did great! (I think she was about 5 or 6 months when they started.... The mom was breastfeeding but had to go to the hospital and have unexpected surgery and was in the hospital for awhile recovering.)
I would DEFINITELY give it a try if your daughter is having so many troubles. I would do that before giving her any more medications..... There is no way that doctors know the long term side effects of giving small infants the things they do......
I would avoid soy. It's been linked to problems! Including infertility!
And I would also keep bringing her in for adjustments! We bring our kids in any time something comes up. Colds, ear infections, fever, sore neck, start having trouble sleeping at night, etc. They have helped our kiddos EVERY TIME!!! No medications here! We prefer the natural route when possible.
Good luck.
chiropractor's are not doctors! Ask your pediatrician first!!!!!
Hm, a chiropractor isn't even a real doctor (i like chiros and am not knocking their skills but they don't go through medical school). i say stick to chiropractors for your back but any questions about your baby's health should be directed to the pediatrician! definitely don't give goat's milk to your baby until you've talked to the pediatrician first.
@ Megan C. yes.....a 3 month old going to a Chiro for reflux is a great idea. Both of my kids did and it worked wonders.
Now.....my daughter went on goat's milk at 12 months. However, I have heard of SEVERAL moms who have used goats milk for their infants with HUGE success.
Yes, Chiropractors are not MD's. But MD's are trained only in treating a symptom, not a cause. Both are a valid resource for health related problems. So, go ahead and ask your pediatrician, do your research and then make your decision.
I hope something works for you! We did Zantac, Gripe Water and chiropractic, baby massage, you name it! for our daughter. It's frustrating!
I would never do soy formula. Babies have actually died, specifically from using soy formula.
Chiropractors ARE NOT DOCTORS!!!! I understand they work wonders for some people but when it comes to your children, please ask your doctor. I would mention this idea to your doctor. Just give them a call so you don't have to pay the co-pay or ask at the next well baby check up. This just sounds WAY to young.
I have heard of goat's milk AFTER 1 yr of age.... I would definitely check w/ your pediatrician vs. the chiropractor.
Really? A 3m old is seeing a chiropracter for acid reflux? I've never heard of doing that.
I would definitely check with you pediatrician about changing her to goats milk and any possible effects it might have. I know the recommended age for cows milk is 1y.
I know you've tried several formulas, but have you tried Gentlease? Or soy?
Good luck.

My son was on goats milk at 9 months and did great on it! Also my sister was on it at 3 months and was in excellent health. But I wouldfirst give human breastmilk a try, wether from you or a bank. If you decide to put her on the goat milk make sure you give her a multivitamin with it as it lacks some vitamins. Also goat milk is very easily digested and prevents allergies unlike cows milk.
A chiropractor isn't a nutitionist and certainly isn't a gatro-enterologist. I would ask the pediatrician about taking your baby to a specialist, or at least see what the pediatrician says about goat's milk.
Goat's milk may be the 3rd world answer to formula, but breastmilk or formula is designed to meet the nutitional needs of infants. A 3 mo. old is too young for cow's or goat's milk.
You can also try researching it on Web MD or the Mayo Clinic website. Stick to reputable medical websites.
NO NO NO>> goats milk is for goats.. your baby could get very sick on goats milk.
infant formula is a complete food it is fortified with vitamins and minerals.. your baby gets everything in the formula. goats milk is just milk.. it does nto have all the vitamins and minerals in it...
my kids had reflux.. it goes away in time.. it is messy but not serious..
my son spit up every day .. every single day until he was 14 months old.. even after we started baby food and table food he still spit up... we tried zantac adn prevacid. neither helped him.. I breastfed so there was no formula to change.. the spitting up got less and less and then it stopped.
So dont stress.. it will stop.. just keep a cloth diaper handy to wipe up the mess.. There is no formula that will eliminate it.. when you start solid foods it will probably get better.
Hi, my little brother had acid reflux when he was born, but my mom didn't know that was the reason why he coudn't keep anything down. First of all, when my mom was told to put him on goats milk, she tried and said she would never do that to him again. Have you ever tried goats milk? It's revolting. She took him to a chiropractor a year later and he did an adjustment once and my brother never puked up his food again. He is now 18. I would take him to a different chiropractor until you feel comfortable with what they are telling you. Adjustments work! He still has acid reflux, there's no getting rid of it, but he couldn't keep anything down until he was adjusted.
I wouldn't trust just a chiropractor- double check w/ your pediatrician first.
Goats milk is good for children who are lactose intolerant or allergic because it doesn't have any lactose in it.
A three month old needs to have either breastmilk or formula- no milk of any kind. Goats milk alone (or even added to formula) doesn't have the nutritional content that a baby that young needs.
Good luck!
I actually grew up on goats milk because I have an allergy to cows milk. It is easier to digest than cows milk. It can also be beneficial because it is usually hormone and anitbiotic free unlike cows milk. But I'm not sure about giving it to a child that is only 3 months old. I would check with your pediatrician and see what he/she has to say about it.
I have to agree that 3 months does sound young?? As far as it being goats milk, it's a little creepy sounding only b/c we're not used to it. If it weren't for a baby so young, I would say go for it. Soy might be another option too. You may have tried that already but I would think you're still going to have to supplement the goat's milk with some sort of formula b/c that wouldn't be enough nutrients...hmm, I just don't know! Good luck!
Hi there.
All my boys were on zantac for acid reflux. I now have them all on ultimate aloe juice. It's amazing. The kids love the strawberry kiwi so they love to take it and it's all natural so they can drink as much as they want. I have a close friend who's son was allergic to everything he was consuming and was hospitalized at 4 months old. They put him on Aloe and he's fine today.
Check it out.

Go with goat's milk. It's very gentle for babies.
