Chiropractor Michael Rider: Anyone Have Any Experience with Him?

I had a diagnostic work up with Dr. Rider and he recommended a treatement plan for me. This is my first forray into chiropractic care, so I'd appreciate some more references than just the glowing testimonials in frames all over his office. If you know this chiropractor, I'd love to hear your opinion of him and the care he provided you, anywhere from quack to miracle worker.

Thanks,
S.

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the good advice. I decided to get a copy of my x-rays from him (which his office staff agreed to with no fuss), then go find a different chiropractor recommended by a friend. As soon as the x-rays are in my hands, I plan to say my piece about his high-pressure sales tactics, the absurdity of "requiring" your spouse to be at the consultation, and the ridiculous demand for payment in full up front.

S., My husband had been seeing him for a couple of years. Lots of money, time and he seems a bit better, but will always occasionally need an adjustment for his back problems. My husband, had been seeing Chiropracotors for years prior to seeing Rider. Never on quite an intense plan like Rider's though.

I had also gone through the diagnostic work up with them. They presented me with the same expectation of me doing an 18 month program. I don't have back issues, but preventative maintenance that he stated I needed. No Thanks! The quality of my life is fine with out the treatments and costs.

If you truly have some issues then Dr Rider, Lisa his wife and staff will treat you well. Just don't be led down the path with their theory, if you really don't need it.

Looks like you have gotten plenty of advise and will have to make a personal choice. Good Luck! W. H

My family (me, both kids, and my husband) went to Dr. Rider for a while, but in the end I didn't feel like our large sums of money were well-spent. He offers very cookie-cutter treatment - our records would come up on his computer screen when we swiped our card in on his new record-keeping gadget, but he never looked at the records. We seemed to just get the same adjustment every time, which never felt like it gave a very strong adjustment, as he processed us through the line of patients. It felt very much like he was just trying to process as many people through as possible.

Our family has been to 3 different chiropractors now. The first just seemed to have odd ideas about a lot of things, though he offered good adjustments. Second was Dr. Rider. We now see Dr. Cameron Laboret (located near TI, just North of 635 and 75). He has given us the most comprehensive care yet, including adjustments that really feel like they're doing something, exercise programs for your back and neck, and a couple other therapies when necessary (neck traction, rolling table, these little electrode things they can put on muscles needing therapy). I see him regularly about once a month, while my husband is the type who goes in just a couple times a year when he really needs it - Dr. Laboret works with us both without trying to guilt us into more visits (though he may suggest we should come in more). And another big bonus - they offer massage therapy there, which can be filed with you rinsurance as part of your treatment. Of our three experiences, he is the first we have been happy with all around. His partner also has an office on Arapaho at Custer, but I have never seen him.

Hi S.. This is a name I was hoping to not see again. I do believe in chiropractic care, however I do NOT believe in the type that he does. He believes that if EVERYONE has the exact same adjustments all will be well with them. I have been in various accidents and I am not the norm when it comes to treatment and care. I went to him for several months, my hubby too, and neither of us ever felt any better. In fact, my hubby left in a lot more pain than before seeking treatment. In the end between my hubby and I both being on a "treatment plan" we were out several throusand dollars and we never felt better. I would encouarge you to look for another dr/practice. One treatment does NOT fit all. There are several chiropractors out there and I would look elsewhere. Good luck with your search.

I have been reading through some of the other postings about people's experience with Dr. Rider and I thought I would give my experience with chiropractic. When I was just 9 years old, I was diagnosed with Scoliosis so severe, my doctors wanted to put surgical rods in my spine. My parents sought other options. I underwent a pretty intense treatment plan, but in the end did not have to have the surgical rods installed and no longer have scoliosis!

I am now a chiropractor. My practice is located in the hotels.com building at Meadow and Central. I develop customized care plans for my patients and incorporate massage therapy into the plan to make a corrective change more quickly. I also offer several different physical therapy modalities in my treatment plans depending on your specific needs. I also update x-rays as needed to monitor the changes being made. Additionally, I can guarantee you will not feel pressured into a treatment plan and will not feel rushed through your visit.

If you feel comfortable with Dr. Rider then by all means continue care with him, but if not, I would be happy to consult with you to see how I may be able to help you.

I do not know this chiropractor but I went to one to help me with my back, I had 6 treatments in 7 days and spent a small fortune. On the 8th day I had to call an ambulance to get me out of the floor. I actually had 2 bulging disks and the treatment was only making it worse. The doctor at the hospital put me on Prednizone and knocked out the inflamation which was a life saver for me.

Dear S.,
Firstly, congratulations on seeking out chiropractic care. This natural health care approach is about keeping your nervous system working well to facilitate overall health and well-being so you can live not only pain free, but a life full of vitality...enough said.
I think the most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident in your choice of chiropractor. If you feel that he is not addressing YOUR specific needs or you feel pressured/manipulated, this is not a healthy doctor/patient relationship and therefore you will not be comfortable going in, will end up resenting the doctor and the treatment, have a bad experience and not get what you need in terms of health care. If you trust him, if you would let him adjust your children (use your mom's intuition) then continue with him. If you don't feel this way, please seek out another chiropractor.
I too, like others here, am a chiropractor. I practice in Coppell and teach at the Chiropractic College here in Dallas. If you are still looking for someone perhaps take some of the suggestions from the other responses or you can go to www.parkercc.edu and find a chiropractor in your area.
Hope this helps,
N. Lederman

Hi S....I'm not familiar with Dr. Rider specifically, but I can surely tell you that Chiropractic is so wonderful for your body...health...your nervous system (which is the brain and spinal cord)...which in turn controls ALL the functions of your body!!! Chiropractors can be very different from one to the next; however, if you feel comfortable with Dr. Rider...and you sense his passion for what he does...and you think you can trust him as your Dr., even enough to have your children get their spine checked...go for it!! I'd love to chat with you or answer any of your questions you may have about Chiropractic... Good Luck!

My family went to Dr. Rider for a while & I felt tons better while having routine chiropractor care. I had headaches often & with weekly care, they were all but gone. My overall health was better, too. He was really good with my kids. My husband had a harder time with adjustments & often felt rushed, similar to the response below. She describes an average visit pretty well. They have a pretty strict way of doing business. He has clients come in for adjustments during certain hours and tries to get them in and out in order to not have people waiting an hour for a quick adjustment. I think his intentions are good, but it can be less personal. I know he's started some new overall health program that I don't know much about, we left around the time they were implementing that. He was good to us and looked out for our overall well being. He showed that to our family in more ways than one. We did have some issues when we couldn't afford care any longer & decided to leave. The pressure to stay was intense. We felt a bit manipulated.

I had the same experience as the last posting as far as Dr. Rider is concerned. Very cookie cutter adjustments, and in the end they still what you to come back regularly...you would think after going for a year you would not need the frequency. I do not recommend...as I feel you do not get your monies worth in the end.
