Not every chiropractor can or should work on children. If you're going to do this, only do it with one who works on his own children.
I have never heard of chiropractors helping with allergies.
I live in Florida, my 4 year old and I are outside almost every day. My son has been getting sinus infections since he started pre k in August. When I was 10 i would go to the chiropractor for my bad allergies; i had success with it. We are thinking about taking our son to one to see if it helps at all. I haven't talked to his pediatrician yet about this because I wanted to see if anyone has had any success with their young child and chiropractor visits. I'm going to talk to some chiropractors this week and ask them some questions. I'm also going to find allergist (spelled wrong?)
I just wanted to get your opinions.

why not start with an allergist?

A good chiropractor will tell you the benefits and the limitations of chiropractic adjustment. For example, movement of the head, jaw, ears, etc may temporarily help with sinus drainage.
It can not cure allergies or infections. It can not make undersized eustachian tubes larger more quickly. It will not change the fact that schools are giant petri dishes of germs.
It is common for kids to be sick more often than usual in their first ear of school. It may have nothing to do with allergies. Even so, seeing an allergist is a good idea. You might be referred to an ENT. Until you know what you're dealing with, a chiro won't know either as they can't diagnose allergies, infections, or ENT stuff.
We did it for years, for us and also our child (not as much for him as for us, but still...) Sorry, we just didn't get results. We finally did cellular nutrition instead of all the multivitamins and so forth that we took, and are off our prescriptions. Once in a while we have a rough day (we've had some crazy springs with intense pollen releases) but otherwise I am off all medications.
If it works for you, fine. Be wary of anyone who wants to sell you a ton of supplements (vitamin this and mineral that) because it's a huge profit center for them. I didn't find any results from individual nutrients like that, and we spent a fortune over a period of about 8 years. Once I went into food science, I learned that overloading on these things doesn't have a strong scientific basis in most cases.
I do think it's worth asking the chiropractor what method he/she uses - if there's a lot of "pop and pray" snapping, be careful. My brother (who knows everything about everything, according to him), has decided to have his wife walk on his back to crack his vertebrae, and I think that's ridiculous. More gentle manipulation or applies kinesiology is something else again and likely safe.
You know he's supposed to get sick a lot in Pre-K and Kindergarten, right? He's being exposed to a whole new set of germs with each year. Every year for some time he should have a sickly fall as his body builds up immunity to the new kids stuff then as bugs/viruses go round he'll build up more immunity.
If he has a sinus infection you can do several things. A Neti Pot is wonderful. It really cleans out the stuff from my nasal areas and I can see a difference when I'm done.
If he needs a medication to combat a sinus infection then he needs to go to his pediatrician.
Allergies show by a set of symptoms. Dripping eyes that are red and itchy, runny nose that can't be stopped, itchy throat and even inside the sinuses. Sometimes my sinuses are clogged up but my nose is still running like crazy too.
Not sure how cracking your spine can help with allergies.
I have very bad allergies. I have tried traditional allergy doctors. I have also tried a chiropractor as well as acupuncture. Neither did a thing for me although I have heard of them helping others. I feel bad for your son...allergies are miserable. I'm the only one in my family with them and I feel very bad for much of the year.
When my sister and I started kindergarten we got sick with everything going around for about 2 years - and then things settled down to one or two colds per year.
And back then (the 60's) there were fewer vaccines - we actually got the chicken pox (I still have a few scars from that), the German measles, the mumps, etc.
When our son started day care at 3 months old - he got sick with everything going around for about 2 years - and then things settled down to one or two colds per year.
My personal theory is : it takes about 2 years of exposure to build up an immune system.
Treat symptoms, see a doctor often, get a humidifier for his room at night, use a neti pot, take steamy showers, etc.
I'm not a believer in chiropractors.
I'm a huge believer in chiropractors - really - for lots of stuff. Both the traditional and the non-traditional. Overall, I'd say go for it. A good, honest chiropractor can tell you if they will be able to make a difference or not.
The one thing I would NEVER do is not to let them "zip" your neck - basically cranking quickly to one side and then another. I can't go into details but I work for a law office . . . I have seen WAY to much on this to ever allow anyone to do it to me or my children. However, there are lots of other things that they can do that do not involve this.
Good luck!
i had many sinus infections as a child but no allergies till i was an adult. so i don't see how chiropractic ajustments for allergies would help a child with sinus infections.
take the child to the pedi for abx for the infection, thed use diet to boost the immune system. don't wast time with chiropractics on this one.
