Hi, I am wondering if anyone has any first hand (or know of anyone that has) taken their children to chiropracters to solve ear problems. My son is 2yrs and 9 months and an ENT has recomended tubes in both ears. I know from all the advice here it is not a major surgery and seems to get good results. I would just like to avoid surgery and would like to find an alternative. I have found a chiropracter that says he can help just wondering if anyone else has had any luck with this. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi B.,

I have been taking my kids to a chiropractor for a few years (they are 3, 2 and 10 weeks). My oldest daughter suffers from asthma and ear infections...the chiropractic care has made her symptoms and issues almost disappear.

We go to Greenwood Chiropractic on Kedzie Avenue.

Good luck!

Hello B.! I am a mom and a chiropractor. My 7 month old son had a double ear infection. It was hard on both of us!! I continued to adjust him and I put breastmilk in his ears. Within 2 days he was back having fun with his older sister. I personally have seen several kids respond to chiropractic care. Check out www.icpa4kids.org and www.mercola.com. HAVE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY DAY!!!!

Just be careful and do your research first on any one you choose before letting them work on you or your children. I have had good and bad experiences. Most recently a chirpractor did an adjustment too hard on me and damaged my lower back.

I did go on a recommendation but as soon as she did the adjustment I knew something was wrong. I have gone to others in the past and even thought about taking my daughter to one until this happened to me. I am in a great deal of pain and I have reconsidered taking my daughter now. I just don't want to chance it.

Please do not call Dr Davis at Cody Chiropractic. They never hurt us, but they have continued to bully me and our family into paying outrageous fees that we are not accountable for. They had earned our trust and I let them near my children. It is truly a disappointment to know they are only out for your money.

Good luck.

Trust him!!!!!! While not all cases of ear infections can be solved by a chiropractor, they can usually help correct the most common cases. My daughter (16 months) has seen a chrio (Dr. Whitney in Naperville & Lisle) since she was 3 months old and has only had one ear infection following a horrible cold her cousin passed along. And he helped it clear up faster after the first round of antibiotics didn't help! I know he has helped other children (helping them avoid tubes). I would definitely try a non-invasive non-surgical solution before resorting to surgery. Hope your little guy is better soon!

Hi B.,
It looks like I may be among the lesser majority, but my youngest son had TONS of ear infections from the time he was born until he was a year old. I took him in for numerous adjustments with the chiropractor with no success. Our pediatrician STRONGLY suggested tubes for Aaron as he was getting to the age where he would be developing language skills and needed to hear properly. With GREAT hesitation, we agreed to the surgery. It's the best decision we ever made. We had no problems with the tubes falling out and he has been ear infection free ever since.

Just my 2 cents,

Hi B., although neither of my children suffer from chronic ear infections I strongly believe in chiropracters for all kinds of health issues in children and adults. I went to one for 5 years and even brought my daughter when she was born for her first year. Chiropracters aren't just back pain, but complete health professionals. I have a friend who owns her own chiro clinic that deals with the whole body. She does everything, not only chiro. She is absolutely wonderful. Her namre is Dr. Helen Lee and is located in Schaumburg. You can look up her site, I'm pretty sure it's Touch of Life Chiropractic (that's the name).

Good luck.

I have been to a number of chiropractors and they all explain why some children have so many ear infections. Alot of them have had neck and spinal misalignment since birth. If you realize the stress on a baby's neck during delivery you can truly understand what they say is true. Even adults experience alot of health issues simply due to misalignment. When a person is adjusted (and it may take a few trips) you will definately see improvement. Personally I would recommend chiropractic care prior to having tubes put in. As Im sure you are aware, tubes will need replaced - sometimes frequently. I think you will be amazed after a few adjustments. Good Luck

Yes! There are definately things that a chiropractor can do to help. There are also nutritional things that you can do to keep his ear infection symptoms away!! Good for you for taking your son's health in your own hands!

I'd love to talk more about children's health through nutrition. If you are interested, please let me know!

My son is now almost four, but when he was almost one we started with the ear infections. He would finish antibiotics and 1-2 weeks later would be back at the doctors for another round. The ENT told us we HAD to get tubes, but we went a different way. We took our son off of milk and dairy products. Turns out he has a sensitivity to it like a lot of people. Dairy causes your body to produce mucus, but causes excess mucus in people with a sensitivity. This mucus then sits in the ear, nose, throat region and they end up with an ear infection. Two days after we switched my son to fortified rice milk his constant congestion was gone and in the past three years we have had four ear infections. His demeanor even changed. He was his sweet self again. Like you, I was willing to try ANYTHING to keep from having surgery. It doesn't work for everyone, but it did work for us. Today he still drinks rice milk (and loves it), but does eat cheese and he does well with it. You will know within a few days if it will work for you. Good luck and if you want to talk about it in more detail feel free to contact me!

My son has been to a chiro since he was four days old. At first he was getting adjust a couple times a week and when he was starting to crawl, walk, etc... Now he goes once a week like us for maintenance and I can tell you at 21 months he has never had an ear infection. So I think it does work. I would give it a try before having tubes put in. I have heard other moms who go to where I go that had kids with frequent ear infections and they have either all together disappeared with weekly adjustments or they have reduced significantly. Just make sure you go to a chiro who knows how to adjust children.

we had great results with chiropractic for our sons. She has a subspecialty with pediatric patients, so I'd be sure that whoever you're working with has gotten specific training and has had results. The bonus affect was that we noticed a distinct behavioral improvement when our son was adjusted too...he had more self control, slept better and was generally much more even tempered. Hi B.,

I worked as a chiropractic assistant for 4 years, before I had kids. We saw several children for the relief of ear infections with very positive results. Inserting tubes in the ears is not always successful. There is a very high rate of them falling out, and the child then must endure a second or third surgery to insert the tubes. Since I've become a mother, I have taken my children to him for ear infections, colic, and to help my son with his altered gait and posture due to a disability. Good luck with your decision.

My brother-in-law and his wife are both chiropractors. We don't see them very often since they live in Peoria but whenever we do, our daughter (10 mos old) receives adjustments. She was just diagnosed w/ a double ear infection last week and he told us that regular adjustments would help her b/c the adj. allows for the fluid to drain. He sent me this link which addresses chiro care for kids.

I'm glad you asked the question b/c I want to find a chiro dr locally so I can take my daughter more regularly.
Good luck!

My daughter had ear infections from birth to two thats when I took her to the chiropractor he adjusted her once and she has never had an ear infection since she is 12. He was so gentle that I had no problem letting him adjust her. I swear by it. Also have you changed the milk he drinks. Try drinking a milk that has no hormones. I have had a number of friends and myself switch to Oberweis milk and it tastes better and the ear issues went away including one not even having to have tubes put in the childs ears.
