I find it very scary that so many people are ready to jump in to seeing Chiropractor for anything and everything. Yes Chiros claim to cure GI, blood pressure problems etc etc. There is NO research basis for any of these claims!!! They cannot back themselves up. There are many reports of chiro manipulations causing strokes in young healthy individuals. (They keep that quiet the lobby for chiroprators is very strong) Many chiro adjustments are done whether needed or not and not based on is the spine malaligned. Yes people walk out of the office feeling good there is an endorphin release when a manipulation is performed. That is why people go back over and over again for that quick fix. Chiropractors can cause hypermobility of the joints by adjusting people over and over again. Yes then they feel like they have to keep going. You need exercise and strength to hold the spine in proper alignment. The joints should be mobilized and put into proper alignment but it should be in conjunction with strengthening and stretching. Only the joints that are restricted should be mobilized and that is not what many chiropractors do they adjust whether you need it or not.
A Osteopathic doctor or manual physical therapist will use evidence based treatment and will not try to see you forever. You should be able to progress to independent exercise.

I take my two year old son once a month as a preventative type thing, and to keep him "well-adjusted" (I mean his spine, not his personality!)
I started taking him after I had been going for a while myself and had seen AMAZING results of what chiropractics can do. I had chronic back and neck pain for over a decade, as well as sciatica and muscle spasms. All of my back pain is gone now, my sciatica and muscle spasms are under control, my chronic migraines are almost completely non-existant and much more mild when they do occur. I even had improvement with my acid reflux. I have been sick less since I started regular adjustments too. The only thing that chiropractic care has not "cured" or made manageable for me is my chronic neck pain- that has only responded slightly to regular adjustments. We determined that it was my muscles that are continually pulling my neck vertabrae out of place, and I have been working with yoga to reduce that muscle tension which is causing the problem. Other than the neck problem, chiropractics has done absolute wonders for my body, mood, and overall health.
I figured if it could do so much for me, it wouldn't hurt to get my son started early and hopefully help him avoid getting in the first place all that chronic pain I accumulated over the years.
I don;t know that it is really necessary to take your kid to a chiropractor, but if you are thinking about it, i would recommend taking them for the initial "breaking in period" (about 12 visits) and then keep going for a few months to see what kind of difference it makes. If your child is in sports or has bad posture, those would be two reasons to start taking her. Frequent illnesses, mood disorders/mood swings/depression, frequent headaches; those would be other good reasons. There are just so many things chiropractics can help with.
I say if you can afford to do it, don't hesitate to check it out.

She would have ear infection after ear infection and after they took her for adjustment which helped her ears drain properly she didn't wind up having to have tubes in her ears. Hope this helps!

I have been taking my kids since they were born, It helps keep them healthy. As a mom I can tell when my kids need an adjustment they seem to get more cranky and everything like that. It helped with my kids ear infections without using antibiotics which only gave them diareah. All of my kids have not really been sick with anything in a long time. Recently my son had a sinus infection and we realized he hadn't been sick like that in over four years and he is 7. I go myself for regular check up it helps me alot.

Chiropractic care isn't just for back aches, there are lots of different reasons to go. Chiropractic care can assist with ear aches, scoliosis, constipation, headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, asthama, just to name a few. It is all about making sure the nervous system, (spinal cords and nerves) are able to send messages without any restrictions. Having your spine aligned can help your body be its own doctor like it was created to be to heal itself.

My boys have had chiropractic treatments for years. they are 3 and 4 years old now. the 4 y/o started with them at 6 weeks while the 3 y/o was an hour old when he started with them (I had a home birth and the chiropractor assisted at it). Both are very healthy. I chose this route b/c I didn't want cranky kids. They aren't great kids though. I didn't have to deal with colic and my boys haven't had much for illnesses or ear infections.

Yes, I have taken my son to the chiropractor for a few different reasons.
I took him a few times when he was about 1 years old because he used to get cronic ear infections.
Then I took him back last year at the age of 5 1/2 - 6 yrs. old. Because he had a head injury in May 2006. I was pretty sure from the injury that he also sustain whip lash because of all the neck pain he used to complain of. I took him there for almost a year. My son actually enjoyed going he said he would feel better after we went.

I took my first daughter once at 2mo because of mild colic. It seemed to help quite noticably. I then was in a car accident 4 days before my due date & my baby flipped! I ended up delivering breech. A quite traumatic birth for a baby and she seemed quite irritable the first months. I took her when whe was about 2 months and she started sleeping throug the night! I haven't taken them back. I really haven't had any problems but I wouldn't hestitate to do it again.
I also have a friend whose parents took him when he was like 4 becuase of bed wetting. One adjustment and he never wet the bed again...

I have taken all three of my boys to the chiro. My youngest went from the hospital to the chiro, then home.
When the boys are starting to get sick, we go in, their colds are lots shorter, and less sever. My middle son was born witha clef palate, and had liquid in his ears from day one, tubes place at 6 weeks. Even though he had tubes, he had a constant ear infection that lasted until he had his cleft repair at 10 months. BUT, that being said, going to the chiro regularly did help him with the drainage of the infected fluid out of his ear.
My oldest child have sever reflux, and regular visits to the chiro was the only thing that helped to calm it down.
My youngest has been my healthiest kid yet. All 3 of the boys enjoy going. I have an awesome chiropractor, and she speciallizes in women and children, she has 4 kids herself.
HEr name is Dr Shelly Recer with healing touch Wellness Center in Eagan, Mn . They work with you on your insurance and if you cannot afford much, they work with you on that, too. Dr Shelly would rather see you in there with your kids than to not.

She is not crying as much. She also gets her hip adjusted because 1 of her feet are pigent toed and now it is turning back. It is the best help for kids instead of putting them on medication or having braces her legs. Also if they are sick especially with a cold she gets adjusted. It goes away fast and isn't as miserable. I whole heartdly agree with Christine B! Chiropractors are fine but should not be the first or only place you go to cure anything!!!! Osteopathic doctors take a wholistic approach and can incorporate chiropractics into a medical/evidence based treatment plan. Overmanipulation of joints can cause problems down the road and is a "quick fix" to the problem if you don't correct the real reason for being "out of allignment". That's why you have to keep going back. Be wheary of Chiropractors who claim to cure multiple issues! They are NOT medical doctors and have FAR LESS training!!!! Talk with your REAL doctor before trying Chiropractics as a cure and if your doctor agrees, great! If not, trust the person who has the MEDICAL training!

She is going to go in with me again soon as she is now telling me each night that her neck hurts.
My chiro said that for someone her age every 4-6 months is good enough for him to see her.

Then, thank GOd, I came across a Metroparent article written by a pain management Dr. at our Children's Hospital. The Dr. said that children respond to chiropractic care 80% of the time, vs adults with only 20%. For whatever reason, chiropractic care works better with kids than adults. GOod luck.

Hi A. -
I take my 4 year old. I decided to try a Chiro because of some ADHD type symptoms, and my Pediatrician believes the only help is drugs (which I do not), so I needed some guidance with more natural choices. She did adjustments, helped with some suggestions for vitamins and suggested omega 3 oils. Then she suggested some allergy testing (which was not something we even thought of) and it turns out that he is intolerant to dairy and eggs! What an incredible difference it has made in my son's life -- I'm so glad that I took him!

I take my 16 month old son to a chiropractor on a regular basis. When he is sick, it helps him feel better. When he is having trouble sleeping through the night, it puts him back in line and gets him sleeping better. When he is cranky from any reason, especially teething, it always puts him in a better mood. But you have to be careful to what chiro you take him to because sometimes my mom will take Troy to her chiro and that always makes him crankier. He doesn't adjust right. When you call to find one just ask what there experience with kids are, a lot of chiro's work just with kids. Good Luck!!!

Yes. I have used a chiropractor for my daughters (ages 7 and 9 1/2). My oldest was with me one day for my adjustment and was sick with a slight fever and another ear infection - she was 2 at the time - he asked if he could check her - by the time we left his office she had pinked up in her cheeks. She then started referring to him as Dr. Magic Fingers. We have used him for ear infections ever since and now also for minor adjustments - they are both very active - 1 is in Taekwondo and the other is a softball pitcher - so I like for him to check them out if they feel they have an issue. My youngest will request a visit and I would prefer an adjustment to medication anyday - I don't have to worry about side effects or allergic reactions, and it works much faster.

I started taking a child with learning disabilities and anger/self-control issues and had GREAT results! He has mercury poisoning from immunizations and the chiro has been a great addition to our plan of action.
Then I started taking another child who wouldn't sleep at night, he cried all the time through the night after I stopped nursing him. Then started getting chronic ear infections if he had dairy. She has done a great job stopping ear infections, even when they are about to burst! So we don't add to the antibiotic resistant bugs AND Sam's body learns to fight bugs on his own.
We don't immunize any more, and a chiropractor who agrees with our views has been a major blessing in our parenting health care.

I have taken my 2yo to a chiropractor since she was born. I conisder the chiropractor to be another way to maintain health. I used to have HUGE problems with daily headaches, and going has helped me and helped when my sinuses are troublesome. My dd had a tendency to always tilt her head to one side - almost ear to shoulder - after she was born, and this worried me, so she was at the chiro at 1 wk. We can tell when she needs an adjustment - after she is much less cranky and sleeps better. We are fortunate and rarely go to a regular doctor - I think we have gone to a regular doctor 3 times (once was due to finding a food allergy) since she was born - other than her well child check ups. I feel that chiropractic care has helped with this.

Hi A., I took my son to a chiropractor when he was 2 months old for two reasons. We thought he was colicky, but what really happened is that when he was delivered (with forceps) the dr. twisted his neck and misaligned two vertebrae. I was skeptical, but would you beleive that after only a few appointments, my son was a completely different baby!? So when i went to see the chiropractor he explained to me that sometimes people come in or even bring their kids in to improve overall wellness. They have special smaller tools for young children and even newborns. If you are looking for a good one, a FANTASTIC one, check out Dr. Gregg Hoogeveen out of Bellevue. He is absolutely incredible and gentle and patient. The whole staff is unbelievably kind and caring. If you want more information, let me know. Good luck!

I started taking my son to the chiro when he was 14 months old due to 7 months of continuour er infections and fluid in the ears. He was recommended for ear tubes by an ENT but the chiro visits cleared everything right up. He gets adjustments every 3-4 months and has only had one ear infection in 3.5 years. The bonus has been a significant increase in his overall health and immune response to any colds he might get.
I started seeing a chiro at age 16. My regular doctor diagnosed me with an ulcer, but it turned out the debilitating pains in my stomach were nerves firing off due to a subluxation (sp?) in my middle back. My sister had winter asthma as a preteen which was cured with chiro adjustments as well.

I've been taking my daughter to a chiropractor since birth (she's 2 1/2). I go on a regular basis myself and feel it is beneficial to us both. It helps us get over sickness quicker and has prevented ear infections in my daughter. When your spine is aligned on a regular basis it helps your digestive system and your whole body function better. Less aches and pains. With children constantly falling down, jumping and moving thier bodies every which way, they are bound to get out of alignment. I wish my mom would have taken me to a chiropractor when I was young, especially when I was playing sports. We go to Langford Chiropractic in St. Paul. Dr. Langford is fabulous and she is wonderful with children. Good luck!

My youngest had her first chiro visit on her 8th day of life. She would not stop crying. The chiro said that her spine was compressed from birth. It took three visits for the crying to completely subside, but the first visit showed marked improvement.
This same child also saw a chiro repeatedly after suffering a head injury at the age of 5 years. She went for five months to good effect.
I have take both of my kids to the chiro when they get sick since they were born if they are not getting well.
Chiropractic is a good thing. People who don't take their kids to chiropractors cannot speak to why... it is impossible to give a good sound reason for not doing something that you have never tried.
There ARE lousy chiros out there. Interview them for the quality of their care before you commit to a visit. You don't want to visit one that hooks your kids up to machines. Hands-on care, long visits and alternative therapy philosophy is what makes a good chiropractor.

A., I believe wholeheartdly in Chiro care. I took my oldest son in at the age of 3 for Chronic Bronchitis. After one adjustment he never had another case of it. I took him once a month during each winter for a couple of years (hard to remember as it was 26 years ago) and then stopped. Chiropractor showed him how to "self adjust" and he still does it himself (at 29 yrs old). I also took my other son in after he fell on the playground in 3rd grade. The fall caused a misalignment in his neck and his ears filled up with fluid. ENT doctor wanted to put tubes in but I refused as he never had any earaches prior to the fall. One, I said One adjustment realigned him, the fluid drained and he's never had another problem (he's 27 now). My husband and I continue to seek care when needed. Don't know what the condition is your seeking to fix but I'd give it a try before medication or surgery. Also a good chiroprator will let you know if the meds or surgery would be the correct thing to do.

I personally have not taken my children to a chiropractor but I will be very soon. My oldest (11 years old) has been complaining of a back ache alot and I have talk to my chiropractor, who I absolutely love (I drive 40 extra miles to see him because he is so good and I trust him). I have talked to him about it and he told me that he even has moms bring thier babies into see him. Not because thier backs are out as much as there is a way to make babies stop being fussy, etc. My chiropractor is one that does not use the table for manipulation, he uses therapy with heat and vibration, and then he puts your back in by lightly pushing in the parts that are out. Many chiropractors use the table and do hard adjustments (as I like to call it), which I have been told is very very bad for your back, legs, etc. If I was you I would ask about what type of manipulation is used before I would take your daughter in to see one. If you have a chiropractor that you use or one that you know other people have had good results with I don't think it would hurt to see them. Hope this helps a little.

I began taking my twins to a chiropractor when they were only 4 wks. old. I had worked for a chiropractor prior to getting married and saw all the amazing things they could do to help children. They are 20 now and continue to use chiropractic care. It was especially helpful to them during their years playing soccer. The adjustments are painless, unless of course you go to the Dr. in pain. Certain conditions require numerous adjustments. The most important thing is to find a reputable chiropractor, just as you would any other doctor. If you are looking for a chiropractor, get recommendations from people you know who use chiropractic care.

Yes, I have. I took my daughter when she was just 6 months old, due to torticolis (sp?) and was very happy.
I recently took her (now 12) into Kolashinski Chiropractic in Hudson WI when she had a terrible sinus infection. I thought it was the worst case of Pink Eye I had ever seen! But it was a sinus infection!!
After the first session, she told me she felt much better! She said she could feel it draining! Then, a couple days later we went in for another session, because it was recommended. She continued to get better after that. We were very happy!
Good luck!

Chiropractic care - specifically cranial sacral therapy - supposedly can help prevent ear infections. I took my 7 month old to Dr. Carla Bruenig in St Paul after he had a slight ear infection. It is 2 months later and he has not had one since. I like Dr. Carla and so does my son. She is gentle and seems smart and capable. She is also trained in homeopathy. L.

Hi A.
I take my kids to the chiropractor for anything I would take them to a medical doctor for and also when they tell me they need a adjustment. It seems to keep them healthy if they are alined correctly. I do still see a medical doctor if the chiropractor can not help. Have a Great Day :)T.

I never have-but when I went to the last chiro, there was a big deal about children going as young as infants. They talk about some serious issues like organs being out of place and kids never being able to live because doctors could not fix this things, but then they went to the chiro and with intensive treatments they were able to fix their kids. (Sometimes it meant like 3-4 visits a week at first and winding them down). Not sure where you live, but a good chiro to look up that works a lot with kids is called GATEWAY Chiropratic. if you have more questions do not hestate to contact me. thanks. hope this helps.

I have taken my children to the chiropractor for a variety of reasons, including; reflux, colds, not sleeping well and most recently I started taking my 7 year old because he is still wetting the bed at night. I really believe in it. If you think about it all of the nerves in your body connect to your spine, if your spine is off even a slight amount it can effect just about anything. Just make sure you check out the chiropractor first. Do they have experience with kids, what method do they use etc... Personally I will only go to chiropractors who use the gonstead method.
Good Luck
