Does anyone know of a toddler/children's toothpaste that is unflavored? Our 4 year daughter does not like mint flavors or fruity flavors. The only toothpaste I can find that she will use is a Baby Orjel (with Elmo on the label) that has a VERY mild fruit taste. Since it is an infant tooth cleaner I know it isn't what she needs. We have about 8 different tubes of kids' toothpaste that have only been used a couple of times. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We have been using the Weleda brand toothpaste since we started brushing my son's teeth. He is almost 4 now, and the dentist said it was fine to continue using it. It is flavored but very mild, and my son loves it. I think you can get it at larger Target stores, but I usually order it online at Amazon or Drugstore.com.

Try "Kid's Spry Tooth Gel with Xylitol."
My picky son, likes that.
But it does have a mild flavor.
I don't know of any, flavorless toothpastes or gels.

I find it at our local natural food store.
Or they have it online even on E-bay.

Or just Google search it as "Spry Tooth Gel."
It has a Giraffe picture on the tube.

Or Google search "unflavored toothpaste for kids."

What about Tom's of Maine? they have a few different ones. We use Fennel, so not sure your child would like it.. like yours, my son does not like fruity flavors.. Also, it doesn't have Flouride, which I think is GREAT as I believe it's terrible and toxic for you.. However, they do offer some if you prefer it..
they have a baking soda variety..

Tom's of Maine flavors are fruit, but very mild. Have you tried?

Well, your four year old can move up to adult toothpaste, but even then, they're all flavored (as far as I know.) You could try Arm and Hammer with her...that's not really flavored so much as it tastes like baking powder. I'd try it.

Hi E.,

Actually you don't even really need toothpaste when you brush. Toothpaste is really a modern invention because when we clean something we like to use "soap" or we don't feel like it got clean. In fact, they have done some studies that people using lots of toothpaste brush LESS effectively because they think the toothpaste is "doing" something.

Yes - toothpaste has flouride. But most of the time your city water supply has flouride, so you don't even need the flouride in the toothpaste.

Just teach her how to brush correctly - brush for 2 minutes total using small circles at a 45 degree angle to the gum getting every tooth. Have her rinse with water before and after she brushes. her saliva will do the rest!

Also - most dentists recommend SUGAR FREE gum containing xylitol (like Trident) after you eat if you aren't able to brush. This stimulates the saliva which breaks down the plaque and removes it from your teeth.

If you don't have gum you can also use a piece of string cheese. In fact for cavity prone kids dentists will sometimes recommend they chew a piece of string cheese at the end of every meal - again it stimulates saliva production which changes the ph in your mouth and breaks down the plaque.

Thanks!

Maybe the Weleda? It is mildly flavored, but very mild. Go check out your natural food store. Orajel has saccarine in it. Even the baby. It bothers me to give an infant/toddler a known carcinogen, even a small amount.
