I am looking for recommendations for a hair salon for young children. I live in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose. My daughter is 22 months old and has never had her hair cut and it's definitely time! Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I would recommend the kids salon on the plaza accross Oakridge Mall (don't remember the name of the salon). My 2 daughters got their hair cut there several times and it was always OK (so much better than the hair cut they got last week at an adult salon where the hairdresser took way too long to cut for young kids and the result was really bad)

Hi C.- This is not a "children's salon" but an outstanding salon for everyone. It is called Metamorphosis and it is on the corner of Meridian and Hamilton right next to Gunther's. Ask for Julie Ruiz (she is the owner). Julie was my neighbor and an outstanding hair dresser who has cut my whole family's hair for 16 years. Three of my 4 boys have all had their first hair cuts with Julie and still get their haircut there. She is the kind of person you can say, "What would look good on me?" and she will confidently make you look great. She is great with kids. The address is 1604 Hamilton, San Jose and the phone number is ###-###-####.

I'm not sure how far you willing to drive, but I highly recommend Little Scissors in Fremont. (near Fremont Blvd. and Alder, across the street from American High School). The owner, Jessie, is very fast and very good, especially with kids who don't like hair cuts.
This salon also has the little cars for the kids to sit in. They also have a playhouse and a big screen TV for videos, for kids to enjoy while they are waiting. In addition, the prices are very affordable. Little Scissors was voted Best Kids' Salon in Bay Area Parent magazine.

I have two suggestions but have only been to one of these salon's. The first place, that I have been to, is on Blossom Hill across the street from Sears at Oakridge Mall. They will give you a piece of her hair and a little certificate, but they charge like $18! However, so far worth it to me because they have these great little cars the kids sit in, there is always a movie playing, and a little play area while you wait. They also usually have a jumpy house that I tell my kids they can go in if they behave while getting their hair cut.
The other place, the I haven't been to but am going to try the next time because closer to my house, is on Meridian and Branham by Petco (or it could be a Petsmart). I've only looked in the window there recently and they also have little cars the kids sit in, etc. Not sure if they are cheaper.
Anyway, good luck!!!

I like Chocolate Mousse in Los Gatos. It's vey cute and Kari does a good job. I think they give you a little cetificate with a lock of hair for baby's first haircut. Good luck!
