P.M. asks from Haverhill, MA

I'm looking for a good dentist for my 4 year old. He's long overdue for a dentist appoinment. He has sensory problems and doesn't do well at the doctors so I've put off his dentist appointment. He also hates brushing his teeth so we have to brush them for him. I live in Haverhill and would like a dentist close to me and that does Sat appoinments or is open late because my husband will be taking him.

What can I do next?

Hi, my family goes to see Dr. Kowalski in Groveland on Salem St. They have always been wonderful there. My youngest daughter has sensory problems as well and my oldest daughter was just plain scared. They have always been very patient there. Good Luck

Hi - We live in Haverhill and go just over the bridge to Dr. Archibald in Groveland. My youngest daughter has extreme sensory issues - she gags severly even when just brushing her teeth - and so I put off her first appointment until she was 5 years old, so I can relate. I was really worried. But Dr. Archibald has a very gentle demeanor, and I wrote on all the forms my concern about her gagging and sensory issues. He was very understanding, and didn't push or do some things that he normally might have with her age. For example, one of her teeth was bothering her. It appeared fine, and normally they would do an x-ray to make sure. But rather than traumatize her on her first visit, he chose to ask us to wait a bit and see if it was just the gum bothering her where another tooth was coming in (and the pain traveling). He'd prefer to hold off than traumatize her - just the right approach! I don't know his hours, however, so don't know if he works Saturdays or late hours. I do know that he willingly met us on a Saturday night (right before an important Patriots game!) when my other daughter broke her front (adult) tooth in half - and he was so nice about it!

Hi P.,

I take my kids to Dr. Dickerson's in Salem, NH right on route 97. He's a pediatric dentist so the whole place is geared towards children. The hygienists are wonderful. We've been very happy there. My son actually looks forward to going to the dentist and he's 5.

Hi P.;

I live in Groveland and have been using Middleton Dental Care in Middleton on 114 for over 15 years. They are AWESOME! My 4 year old loves going to the dentist. He has all the latest gadgets and the kids get to watch TV, a movie, play a game or listen to music while they work on you. TOP NOTCH Dentist that I would highly recommend for your whole family!

Good Luck!

My husband, 4 year old son, and I all go to Dental Health Professionals in Methuen: http://yourhealthiersmile.com/index.php
They do have Saturday hours every other week, and they are open until 6:30 some evenings. I've been very happy with them, and my son has done great (but he didn't really have any issues with his teeth). Although they aren't specifically pediatric dentists, they seem to have a good approach with kids.
