Child with Pale, Peaked-looking Face

For the past few days my 9-year-old has been looking kind of pale and peaked, and a bit puffy around the eyes. He's acting fine, appetite is fine, and so forth, except for some sniffles and slight cough (he got over a nasty respiratory virus right before Thanksgiving). I just am worried a little about how he looks. Viral hangover? Allergies? Cold coming on? Growth spurt? What do you think?

What can I do next?

I would make sure he gets extra rest and still push fluids to hydrate him. If hes not looking better by the end of the weekend I would take him to the dr to check for an underlying infection. If he runs a fever i would take him in sooner. It could be that he is exhausted from it all but there could also be an infection that is bogging him down.

Sounds like he could use some extra rest.
See if he can get to bed earlier than usual for a few days (and sleep in later over the weekend).
A good long soak in a hot epsom salt bath can be very relaxing.

If he is very pale, lips appear very pale and eyes could be puffy, I would take him to get a blood test done. My son has another issue but in July he was very pale and I was waitign for him to get better. I took him for a visit and they did a blood test. His cell count was very low. Due to a bleeding issue, they gave him a transfusion. But we also did iron supplements for a month. In September we went for a clinic visit and his cell count was fine. No problems since. Most children can recover from a deficiency on their own but it is a good idea to see how low it is.

Sounds like he's getting sick. I would baby him this weekend, extra sleep, very healthy food, lots of water, lots of r and r etc. but and take him to the doctor Monday for a blood test if he's not better by Monday.

very vague symptoms for a kid we can't see and don't know. have him rest, and if it doesn't pass, don't rely on MP, take him to the doctor.
